General Information
NIASD is a Dutch Foundation administrated by Leiden University since the first of January 2006. NIASD is largely financed by the Dutch Ministries of Education, Culture and Science and of Foreign Affairs. Leiden University itself and the University of Amsterdam are financial contributors as well. The staff of NIASD consists of 2 Dutch staff members and 3 local employees.
Mission and Objectives

To advance and maintain the academic relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and The Netherlands, and, in connection to that, to advance and maintain the relations between both countries in the fields of culture and international co-operation.

Main Projects / Activities

Main activities :
• Supporting scientific research and studies
• Initiating and facilitating student exchanges
• Initiating and facilitating lectures, seminars and courses
• Courses Dutch for Syrians and courses Arabic for Dutch speaking students
• Initiating and facilitating artistic projects, art exhibitions, filmprogramme
• Supporting consultants and Dutch and Syrian civil servants, who are involved in the execution of international co-operation projects in which the Syrian Arab Republic is a partner, by initiating and facilitating presentations, lectures and meetings concerning these projects and by offering network opportunities
