General Information
The University of Macerata was founded during the thirteenth century (a.D.1291) by Pope Nicholas IV as Scholam Legis. Today is a Public Institution hosting 6 Faculties (Law, Arts and Humanities, Political Science, Economics, Education Science, Communication Science), 11 Departments, 9 Institutes, 3 Specialisation Schools, offering all together to 12.872 students (24 january 2007) a wide range of courses consisting in 28 undergraduate courses, 23 Masters, 27 Ph.D. courses, 17 Specialisation Diplomas. Annual budget for the Academic Year 2006/2007 is estimated of 10 Mill. €, having the Italian Govt. as main donor (Min. of University & Research), followed by the student taxation, European Community funds and others. In 2006 were employed 288 being permanent teaching staff and 1.435 as per collaboration contracts, while the number of employee in administration amounts to 236 persons.
Mission and Objectives

The University mission is to offer high quality education to national and international students in the field of humanities, law, political sciences and economy. Main task of the University is to promote dialogue and experiences exchange amongst the entire society, promoting equity and social justice. A wide range of activities is connected with the promotion of gender equality and democracy. Building a democratic society is the major objective and the University is continuously seeking for partners to achieve justice and peace.
The numerous projects the University is involved in, demonstrate the capacity of our institution to attract different position and to work for equity and transparency.

Main Projects / Activities

Besides the normal cultural activities that continuously go on, the University runs the Erasmus project, it is involved in scientific projects of National and International interest, it has a centre for inter-departmental research and many others research programs.
Very much emphasis is now on the development of a centre of e-learning and multimedia approach to study.
