The third Young Med Voices Regional Leadership Seminar is taking place online from the 25 to 29 January 2021. The event brings together over 25 emerging leaders from across the Euro-Mediterranean region, selected from an expanding resource pool of many hundreds of young debaters engaged in the Young Mediterranean Voices programme as well as other young leaders from the region.
H.E. George Vella, President of Malta, welcomed participants of the first day of the Seminar and highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation in youth exchange: “I encourage discussion on a structured, Mediterranean-based student exchange programme and a Model for Youth Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly. Youth debate should continue to ensure the Mediterranean region becomes a mosaic of people-to-people encounters." Also present for the introductory session were Dr. Nabil al-Sharif, Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation, and Godfrey Pirotta, Chairperson of the Mediterranean Academy for Diplomatic Studies.
Over the course of five days, trainees will have unique access to experienced global leaders, EU policy-makers, media mentoring, and influential peer networks from politics, business and civil society, with the overall aim to expand their capacity for positively shaping policy and media narratives.
The Seminar is organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation with co-partners MEDAC (Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies, Malta) and the World Leadership Alliance-Club de Madrid, in association with Common Purpose International. The activity also involves representatives of the other co-partners and supporters of 'Young Mediterranean Voices': the British Council, the Centre for Mediterranean Integration (CMI), the World Bank Group, Global Thinkers’ Forum, the Government of Finland, and the European Commission (DG Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations).
The Leadership Seminar provides a space for cross-cultural interaction, capacity-building, mentorship, and dialogue for young leaders. As well as transferring the experience of current and former leaders through a constructive safe digital space, it will tackle four main Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), paving the way for participants to reflect on them, and produce implementable policy recommendations for positive social change within their home countries and societies, as well as throughout the region. Participants will be asked to work in inter-regional teams to design, formulate and advocate for a policy recommendation within one of the four SDGs.
The general public will be able to attend two public sessions on 28 and 29 January. These workshops will be livestreamed on the programme’s Facebook channel @YoungMediterraneanVoices.
