Mission and Objectives

The objectives of the Institute are to conduct research into political and social conflicts at an interdisciplinary level and to generate possible solutions designed to provide advice for political decision-making. These activities are underpinned by basic research.

Main Projects / Activities

The Institute's focus encompasses the following fields:
(1) Research on democracy: research on development of democracy in liberal political (sub-) systems, research on development of democracy in the European Union. (2) Cleavages in politics and society: gender research, migration/integration research, secularisation research. (3) Security research: security and the rule of law, security and the welfare states, violence research. (4) Research on prejudice: research on anti-Semitism, xenophobia, racism and misogyny research and/or training programmes in the field of citizenship education. (5) Historical social research: women and Nazi persecution (in particular in Ravensbrück and Mauthausen), oral history and remembrance policy. Information about the research projects are available on the IKF-website www.ikf.ac.at

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
