General Information

The Club "The House" has 4 sections in different regions of Latvia; the main of them is located in Riga. All members, including the board of seven people (president, two vice presidents, two regional representatives and two board members), are volunteers. Sources of funding are donations, membership fees, project grants and sponsors. The Club "The House" is also a representative of Young European federalists (JEF) in Latvia and a member of the Youth Council of Latvia. The main activities are projects, seminars, lectures, camps, competitions about Europe’s topics with the aim to encourage young people to be active citizens of Latvia and EU. Our partners are youth non-governmental organisations in Latvia and other countries, JEF sections, state institutions (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs), European Commission, European Parliament information office.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the organisation is to popularize the idea of a united Europe, to promote democracy, tolerance and human rights while informing and educating youth. The main aim is to achieve that youngsters find out more about European institutions, about European culture, history, traditions, sport, social and political processes.

Main Projects / Activities

The Club “The House” has lots of traditions like organizing activities in Europe Day, questionnaire about Europe for students, tea evenings with discussions about different themes, film evenings. The most important projects in last two years were hosting 4 EVS volunteers, trainings about European Parliament elections and informal education, street actions about NATO and Europe Day, photography exhibition “Europe in Latvia”, exchange with Belarus.

General Information
NGO “Culture. Tolerance. Friendship.” is youth organization, which since 1996 is engaged in educational and support activities for minority young people including dissemination of information, publishing of information materials, booklets as well as training activities. The subject areas of our work are children and young people, ethnic minorities, lifelong learning, fundamental human rights, European citizenship and combating discrimination. We implement many various projects both on national and international levels for young people aiming to increase their capacities and abilities and make them more competitive, self-confident, skilled and smart.
Mission and Objectives

The overall objectives of the organization are promotion of tolerance and intercultural dialogue among young people; combating racism, xenofobia and discrimination; promotion of active participation of minority young people and European citizenship.

Culturelab is an independent organization (NGO) with 2 employees + others involved within running projects. Sources of funding are self-income and project grants from public funds. Culturelab cooperates with local self-government, Ministry of Culture of Latvia, Vidzeme University, research company and other cultural organizations in Latvia. Culturelab highly values exchange of expertise with international partners operating in the field.

Culturelab is aiming to individual and community development through arts and cultural activities – creative and innovative use of cultural resources (both physical assets as well opportunities in cultural engagement).

General Information

Daugavpils University (DU) is situated in south-east part of Latvia. It was founded in 1921 and today is the biggest regional state university and the only university in Eatern-Latvia. DU has five faculties: the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Faculty of Music and Art and the Faculty of Education and Management. We offer 56 study programmes that train biologists, programming engineers, physicists, intercultural relations managers, institutional managers, economists, psychologists, artists, linguists, interpreters, career consultants and other specialists. At the moment the university has 4185 full-time and part-time students who study in academic or professional bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programmes.The main research disciplines of DU scientists are Literary Science, Linguistics, History, Biology, Environmental sciences, Physics, Economy, Sociology, Psychology, Education and Art. DU has eight research centres, almost all of them have allocated the means of various EU projects and have purchased modern equipment (e.g. ZEISS laser scanning microscopes), which allows to conduct high level research in various fields. DU has an advantage to be located in multicultural environment. We cooperate with various institutions worldwide and recently we became a member of EUA. Our University participates in international Erasmus programme. We have 38 partners in 17 countries.

Mission and Objectives

Professional Master’s study programme's "Intercultural Relation": The objective of the programme is, proceeding from the knowledge acquired in bachelor study programmes, prepare professionals of the qualification matching international and local criteria who would be able to organize and supervise work in the sphere of intercultural relations solving problems in a new or unfamiliar environment in multicultural context. Tasks • extending knowledge in cultural and intercultural issues from the theoretical and practical aspect, thus facilitating the understanding of the peculiarities of diverse cultures and cultural contacts; • raising theoretical aptitude with the aim of improving students’ skills of producing, developing, and applying original ideas in their research; • introducing students to the problems and functioning of modern mass media, communications and media, to the principles of analysing the information of Latvian and foreign mass media and other public information in the intercultural sphere; • developing students’ competence of performing the activities of internal and external cultural communication at the institutions associated with intercultural relations; • developing skills of predicting, coordinating and forestalling situations of intercultural crises; • giving an opportunity of gaining experience in planning, organizing, and assessing intercultural events and projects.

Development Bulb has established partnerships with Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences and Riga Technical University. Internationally, Development Bulb cooperates with Centre for Civil Integration and Inter-Ethnic Relations (CCIIR) in Georgia. Development Bulb is a member of Latvian Platform of development for cooperation. There are no employees in DB, all work is done voluntarily. So far ca 8 volunteers have contributed to various projects of DB. DB as an NGO working in development, annually applies for ODA funding of Latvia's government. There are no stable funding sources for DB yet. Development Bulb is a nongovernmental organization of Latvian experts in field of cooperation for development and education. Though the NGO itself has been established in 2008, our team has been working in field of cooperation for development since 2005 already. Activity of Development Bulb is both internal – dedicated to improvement of cooperation for development in Latvia, and external – aimed to identify examples of best practice in Latvia in order to forward them to less developed countries, uniting both state and non-state organizations, municipal institutions and representatives of private sector. Main goals of the Development Bulb are: 1) to facilitate innovative approach to development cooperation, realizing needs of partner states of Latvia in development cooperation and finding relevant Latvian experience in reply to these needs; 2) to improve establishment and growth of entities working in field of development cooperation in Latvia by means of research and methodology development projects and implementation of best practice examples of other states, for instance, assessment experience for development projects. Mission and Objectives

Development Bulb is a nongovernmental organization of Latvian experts in field of development cooperation and education. The mission of Development Bulb is to foster development and better living conditions through improvements in education in less developed regions, uniting state and non-state actors, municipal institutions and representatives of the private sector.
The main objectives of the Development Bulb to be achieved in long-term are: 1) to facilitate innovative approach to development cooperation, realizing needs of partner states of Latvia in development cooperation and finding relevant Latvian experience in reply to these needs; 2) to improve establishment and growth of entities working in field of development cooperation in Latvia by means of research and methodology development projects and implementation of best practice examples of other states.

Development Bulb visits Belarus for partner search visit, and organizes a roundtable for Latvian NGOs discussing opportunities and obstacles related to cooperation with Belarus.

Possibilities of e-learning in Georgia: a way to upgrade education system with easily accessible resources
In 2008 DB received a grant of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of Latvia for implementation of the e-learning project. In cooperation with Georgian non-state organization “Centre for Civil Integration and Inter-Ethnic Relations” (CCIIR) DB invited managing officials from universities of Batumi, Kutaisi and Gori, University of Medicine, Ilya Chavchavadze University and Ivan Yavakhishvili University of Tbilisi, also representatives from Ministry of Education of Georgia and non-state organization CCIIR. The group visited Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and Riga Technical University, where they participated in training workshops about the development and maintenance of e-learning platforms. Representatives from Georgian universities discovered effective low-cost solutions to upgrading university IT infrastructures and using affordable tools for e-learning.

Shaping Development Co-operation in the World and in Europe: a Latvian Perspective
In 2007 DB team implemented a project together with Latvian NGO GLEN Latvija. The project was financed by the Latvian MFA, and it’s aim was to facilitate involvement in development co-operation studies at Latvian universities located outside capital Riga. The project aimed to raise awareness of development co-operation among university students and professors. The project stimulated university professors’ commitment to the field of development studies and student interest in development issues. During visits to universities students were also introduced to opportunities for development studies in universities abroad.
Facilitation of computer literacy in municipalities of Georgia
Members of DB also took part in GLEN Latvia project “Dimensions of sustainable development in regions of Kazbegi and Borzhomi” and a project of Riga Technical University Center for remote studies “Facilitation of computer literacy in municipalities of Georgia.”
The Promotion of Development Studies in Vidzeme University College
The aim of the project was to deepen the understanding of students about development cooperation in Latvia and the world. The objective of the project was to prepare the track of International Development Policy studies in prospective Master’s level program of International Relations. The project involved the design and pilot of two new study courses on “Development Theories and Practice” and the “ICTs in Development: The perspective of E-democracy,” as well as the design of 6 new course curricula, visits of 4 guest lecturers and one visiting professor in the field of sustainability of development projects. Students of Political Science and Tourism Organization program prepared three research papers University’s public library purchased textbooks in the field of development studies. Project materials in Latvian are availableon University’s website.

Dobele Youth Initiatives and Health Centre (DYIHC) is a support institution for education in Dobele region. The centre works in such fields - educating, consulting and diagnosing, coordinating informatively, youth initiatives and spare time activities and preventive work. There are 17 employees in DYIHC - youth specialist, psychologists, psychotherapist, health promotion consultants, speech therapists, career consultant and volunteers.

DYIHC is established to improve society's physical, mental and social well-being.
It is one of the local government's tools to work with children and youth.

Educating – interactive lessons, group activities, support groups for young people and their parents, festivals, competitions, camps, seminars, training;
