General Information

URI MENA is a regional network that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences and work together for the good of their communities and the world. URI MENA implements its mission through local and global initiatives as well as through its 85+ independent group members/ organizations (we call them Cooperation Circles “CCs”). URI MENA CCs are engaged in community action such as humanitarian aid, conflict resolution and reconciliation, environmental sustainability, education, women’s empowerment, youth leadership programs, and advocacy for human rights. Even though it operates independently from its office in Jordan, URI MENA is part of the URI, a global grassroots interfaith network presents in 108 countries including more than 1,000 member groups and organizations. URI enjoys the consultative status with the United Nations Economic & Social Council and has partnerships with several other UN agencies. (www.uri.org) URI MENA is active in grassroots interfaith dialogue and peace-building activities in 13 countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). URI MENA’s member groups/ organizations are diverse, each group/ organization includes at least seven members and at least three diversities (e.g. religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions). In total, URI MENA community exceeds 350 members. URI MENA organizes regional conferences, training workshops for all its member groups under themes related to interfaith dialogue, peace-building and community development. In addition, it encourages its member groups/ organizations to organize many local activities dedicated to promoting peace and serving local communities.

Mission and Objectives

Mission: To sustain peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences and work together for the good of their communities and the world. Objectives: Countering / Preventing violent extremism to end religiously motivated violence and promote cultures of peace in MENA region and across the globe. Promote understanding & cooperation between people of different cultures and faith. Capacity building of youth and community to contribute to community development (economic empowerment, human rights, inclusion, social justice, self-determination and collective action).
