We are politically and religiously independent and will cooperate with other organisations and also the Public Sector. We are a team of volunteers who work on voluntary basis.  Our aim is to make the world a better place for everybody regardeless of their place of birth, gender, race or religion by running national projects with a positive impact. We believe in the equality of all people and a more egalitarian and tolerant society focusing on the role of girls and women privately as well as publicly. According to the World Bank women use 90% of their income on the well-being of their families whereas men use 30-40%. A third of all women have suffered sexual violence according to WHO. Violence against women is not ethincally, culturally or religiously related but occurs everywhere. Girls and women are subject to gender related violence only just because of their sex. Our aim is to focus on equality, diversity and peace for a better world.
Mission and Objectives

Our aim is to work with varied organisations as collaborators which allows us to make the world a better place for everybody regardeless of their place of birth, gender, race or religion by running national projects with a positive impact.
We believe in the equality of all people and a more egalitarian and tolerant society focusing on the role of girls and women privately as well as publicly.

We work with UNHCR making testimonials like "Telling The Real Story".
We also started language cafes and a voluntary advice office, RådRum in South of Sweden.
Our voluntary team arranges seminars and gatherings to help integration. They helped developing and spreading a method book to help organisations/people to spread information to new comers with focus on equality, women and children's wright.

We have a project now with Youth for Exchange and Understanding in Portugal. Our members work voluntary at the moment.
Mission and Objectives

Our main objectives are to take care of immigrants that are new in the country. To organise orintation courses for them.
To help them get the necessary information they need to get integrated into the mainstream society.

Main Projects / Activities

Our main project is to feed the new comers with information they need to get into the main society. We have the plans to reach African youths that are still warming up for avenues to come to europe in search of greener pastures.
We think that it is better to let them know that they can make it in their various countries by struggling hard than coming to a new country where they have no network.
It does not end to help them in their new countries but We think that efforts should be made to help to yet to come about the risks involved. This can be achieved through conferences, seminars and training programs in various countries in Africa.

General Information

Afroinstituionen consists of a board of 5 people and approximatly 100 members. We have several partnerships with institutions and organisations in Sweden, including Världskulturmuseet, Kulturhuset Bergsjön, Folkuniversitetet, Göteborgs stad, and Demokratifonden. The last three have also provided us with funding for different projects such as 'Been Black' (A workshop series for young black people exploring black history and creativity) and 'The virtual institution' (The creation of a digital platform with empowering resources for afroswedes). We host community-building activities, exhibitions, and workshops for our members.

Mission and Objectives

Afroinstitutionen is a meeting place for Black people in Gothenburg. It exists to empower Black People, to fight racism, to spread knowledge and to improve the health and well-being of the Black community.

Our main objectives are:
- To empower and heal Black People of all ages.
- To combat racism, anti-Black racism, social exclusion, segregation and other types of discrimination against Black People.
- To function as a meeting place for Black People. We aim to connect with, unite and mobilize Black People by creating networks and partnerships.
- To function as a reference group for people/organizations working with endeavors that align with our objectives and values.
- To engage Black People and enable their participation in society. We recognize the participation of Black People in all levels of society as crucial.
- To enforce love for ourselves, we will work towards the well-being of the Black community and all of its members.
- To take control of our own narrative as Black People contributing to a positive and nuanced representation of the African continent and its descendants.

Main Projects / Activities

Afroinstitutionen hosts a variety of events, projects, and activities that align with the mission. Activities include, but are not limited to, community-building activities, workshops, conversations, creative retreats, physical activites, attending cultural events, and a book club. So far, we have conducted two major projects, described in the general information above, and with more extensive project descriptions attached.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Through our knowledge and experience in the fields of community organising, black empowerment, anti-rascism, feminism, decolonizing practices, and inclusion. We can contribute with ideas, experience, and strategies for social change, empowerment, healing, and sustainable organising. As an organisation, we were born out of a range of different initiatives including the organisation of the Black Lives Matter demonstration in Gothenburg in 2020. Since then we have focused a lot on sustainability, empowerment, and longevity.

We also have an extensive network. We would be more than happy to support fellow partners in the network with both our expertise and our contacts.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

The main reasons for us to join the ALF Network are to collaborate with like-minded people, expand our network, exchange ideas, part take in inspiring activities such as workshops, trainings, cultural events, and conversations. We would also like to see how a partnership can support us in our mission and enable us to host activites in collaboration with partners from the network. In this tough political climate, mobilising, supporting each other, exchanging ideas, and growing together is the key to liberation!
