General Information
Sadaka Reut was founded in 1983 as a movement by a group of Palestinian and Jewish students, citizens of Israel who shared the vision of a better future for both people. After ten yeas of activities Sadaka Reut was registered on August 10th 1993 and is recognized as an Association (‘amuta’) by the Ministry of Interior (the Association Registrar)in Israel. Its registration number is 58-022-190-1. In its first years of activity, the organization mostly focused on creating frameworks for dialogue between the two national groups, believing that cultural and geographical segregation were the main obstacles to the creation of peace and the resolution of the inner Arab- Israeli conflict. This approach greatly suffered from the failure of the Oslo agreements and the break out of the second intifada. The years 2000-2002 were very difficult and many changes were brought to the organization, its staff, its programs and its educational approach. Today, Sadaka Reut mostly focuses on conflict transformation, critical education and leadership building among the Palestinian and Jewish youth citizens in Israel. Sectors of activity: Sadaka Reut works in the field of education and social activism among Palestinian and Jewish youth, all citizens of Israel. This is the core sector of our work. Parallel fields include conflict transformation, peace building, leadership training and community empowerment. Regions of activity: The organization is active all over the country, with a specific focus on the center (Tel Aviv agglomeration, including Bat Yam, Ramle and Lud) and the center north (Hasharon and Triangle areas - areas are situated north of Tel Aviv and south of Haifa, and they go from the sea to the West Bank such as: Jiser al zarka, Musmus, Natanya, Kalanswa, Tira, Taybe.
Mission and Objectives

Sadaka Reut works for social and political change in Israel through the promotion of of a bi-national multicultural and egalitarian society based on social justice and solidarity. we focus on youth education and community empowerment, looking to change attitudes on the long-term by challenging the existing narratives and discourses concerning the Israeli - Palestinian conflict and encouraging critical thinking and joint youth activism initiatives. In order to achieve these goals, we bring together groups of Jewish and Arab youth over extended periods of time, allowing them to overcome barriers of fears and stereotypes, while teaching them the importance of community involvement, providing them with valuable skills and, through this process, creating a viable model for Jewish Arab partnership.

Main Projects / Activities

Our 3 projects are: *Our flagship project for over twenty years, ‘Building a Culture of Peace’ brings together Palestinian and Jewish teenagers in a 2-year educational process which seeks to deal with the consequences of the Arab-Israeli conflict on the Israeli society. With the majority of Palestinian and Jewish youth citizens of Israel, being physically segregated from one another (in separate communities and schools) and fears, racism and prejudice the result, we look to build alternative models for interaction between the two groups. The ‘Building a Culture of Peace’ program seeks to create a space in which both Palestinian and Jewish youth may feel equal, respected and recognized as individuals and as national collectives. This is achieved through an educational approach based on a combination of long-term uni-national and bi-national work, delivered through weekly meetings, weekend seminars and our intensive summer program. This blend ensures that our youth go through in-depth processes enabling them to deal with the respective needs of each national community, something necessary given that the two groups are not symmetric. Moreover, it creates the grounds for a bi-national encounter capable of challenging the segregation and alienation at the base of Israel’s reality. *‘The Markaz’ project was established in 2006 as a natural development of the organization’s involvement in the Arab- Jewish mixed city of Jaffa. The alternative the ‘Markaz’ seeks to construct is one based on the creation of a bi-national framework encouraging political education and youth activism. This framework stresses the need to develop a community of young activists with a bi-national approach, out of the understanding that such frameworks are increasingly rare across Israel’s socio-political spectrum. Moreover, we believe such structures are absolutely necessary in order to bring about a joint struggle for the building of a different future. The ‘Markaz’ creates a framework for encounter and joint action of Arab and Jewish youth from the mixed cities of Jaffa, Ramle and Lud, as well as from Bat Yam and south Tel Aviv, as part of the understanding that the lives of these communities are interrelated. Youth living in these communities come from the social periphery and usually from middle and low socio-economic backgrounds. The Arab youth, in this context, suffer from the double oppression of their economic and their national background. The Jewish youth also come from excluded groups, mostly new immigrants (Russia and Ethiopia) and Sephardi Jews. Encounters between these youth rarely take place, whilst there lacks bi-national frameworks in the area that can prove successful in providing empowering outlets for these youth. * 'Community in Action' - Formerly entitled ‘Leaders for Change’, the Community in Action program seeks to create and develop a bi-national community of young activist leaders, skilled and devoted to creating social and political change in Israel-Palestine, promoting equality, social and historical justice and the respect for human and civil rights of all people. The project seeks to develop, at the grass-roots level, bi-national action groups ready and qualified for effective involvement in the political sphere, capable of challenging the injustices and the non-respect of human and civil rights that make up Israel-Palestine’s reality, while strengthening democratic values. The ‘Community in Action’ program is designed to address the acute shortage of committed and professionally trained young people acting as constructive agents for change within society in Israel. What makes these particular groups unique is that the concept of Jewish-Arab partnership lies at the very base of their outlook, something, we believe, is a necessary component for effective social change in Israel. This partnership represents our vision, and simultaneously, our approach: a belief in joint action which encompasses both sides, whilst challenging society and the structures of segregation it upholds. It is a socio-political model which identifies common interests and a common goal whilst recognizing the existence of two distinct national groups. Capitalizing on the success of the ‘Leaders for Change’ program, in which we trained groups of 6-8 high school graduates over a year-long cycle, we now work with a larger net of young adults in an altogether more far-reaching project. This broader position means we work with graduates from our various programs right up to university students, reaching numbers of up to 30-35 youth each year.

General Information
Salma Dance Academy is a non-for-profit cultural institute based in Haifa serving the Palestinian-Arab community in Israel. Founded in 1979 by Ferial Khsheibon, who currently serves as Salma's Artistic Director, the Academy produces innovative performances at a professional level, while also training young students in dance technique through classes open to the public in a range of levels and genres. The Palestinian community is in dire need of outlets for artistic expression, and Salma serves to nurture creativity in young students, while encouraging them to engage with their culture and dream big about their future. Our annual budget is approximately NIS 1,000,000 (approximately 200,000 EUR). Current sources of funding include the Israeli Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Haifa, and self-generated income from ticket sales and student fees. The staff includes an artistic director and office manager. The Board meets regularly to give input on performances and artistic direction.
Mission and Objectives

Mission: Salma Dance Academy seeks to contribute towards the development of the Palestinian community through the arts. We provide access to high-quality dance classes and performances, cultivate personal skills and confidence, as well as communal pride, through dance education and performance.
Objectives:
1. Foster appreciation for the art of dance performance within our community, while nurturing technique and talent through dance education at high professional standards;
2. Promote the empowerment and well-being of our community through dance by encouraging the use of dance as a medium for self-expression, identity, creativity and cultural exchange;
3. Present and promote our cultural heritage through high-level dance performances that revive traditional dance styles alongside contemporary genres.

Main Projects / Activities

Salma Dance Academy offers classes in classical and modern ballet, hip-hop, jazz, ballroom, flamenco, traditional folklore and theater to dancers aged four and up. In 2012-2013, nearly 300 students were enrolled in the dance school, including over 200 children 6-16, and 50 senior dancers who are members of the Academy's professional level performance ensemble.
Salma has created a number of full-length dance productions with original scores and Arabic scripts. Productions resurrect classical forms of Palestinian-Arabic dance and music, increasing familiarity with these unique art forms, and restoring pride within the community. Productions often deal with difficult social issues, serving as an outlet for communal support and understanding.
After many years of renting studios, in 2010 the Academy decided to invest in the future of dance in the Palestinian-Arab community, embarking upon a full-scale renovation of a new studio space in Haifa. We hope this studio will serve as the home of dance in the Palestinian community for years to come.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

As the biggest and oldest organization promoting dance within the Palestinian community in Israel, we have much experience to share with potential partners doing similar work in other Mediterranean countries, especially minority cultural organizations, as well as other similar cultural and dance organizations operating within other communities in Israel. We welcome the possibility of building partnerships with cultural organizations across the region. We are especially interested in expanding our programming to serve and accommodate the most marginalized children in our community, who cannot afford to study dance without institutional support, and we are eager to learn from the experience of network members on building successful projects such as these. In addition, we see the medium of dance, and the arts overall, as a tool with great potential for allowing cultural exchange, deepened inter-group understanding, and coexistence. We would like to engage partners from the network in building joint projects which would take advantage of these powerful aspects of the arts.

Shining a Brighter Light Together

Beit HaGefen, an Anna Lindh Foundation Israeli Network member, recently hosted an inspiring interfaith event on 10.12.23, marking a collaborative effort among multiple organizations and religious groups within Haifa, a multicultural city in northern Israel. Central to this event was a candle-lighting ceremony commemorating the Hanukkah Jewish Holiday—a symbol of eight days of light and hope.

Participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the significance of light in our lives, harmonizing their voices in song to celebrate light’s universal essence. Representatives from diverse religious backgrounds delivered speeches, echoing a collective call for fostering hope and peace within our community.

This gathering is a facet of Limmud Haifa—an endeavor promoting intra-cultural inclusivity and nurturing pluralistic learning environments. Through comprehensive daylong learning events, we aim to cultivate communal experiences that fortify Jewish identities while fostering interfaith dialogue and mutual understanding. These interactions serve as catalysts, paving the way for collaborative ventures and joint initiatives in the days to come.

Limmud Haifa combines representatives from several civil organizations in Haifa who contribute to the network's endeavors, as well as our Anna Lindh Foundation Israeli Network members, Beit HaGefen and BINA, as well as our new potential member, Hamidrasha

Mission and Objectives

Shutafut-Sharakah was established with the vision of transforming the Israeli reality through the building of mutual respect between Israel’s Arab and Jewish political leaders, opinion influencers and communities by leveraging the forum’s members experiences and expertise and to strengthen and expand civil society organisations partnerships and cooperations to promote a shared society and combat racist and discriminative policies and acts that target Israel’s Arab citizens. Shutafut-Sharakah’s member organizations are all central players in the advancement of Jewish-Arab equality and the promotion of a shared society in Israel. Each organization approaches this goal from its own unique perspective and the resulting cooperation between the organizations allows for an optimization of human and financial resources in a holistic approach which provides an environment in which organisations can work together to advance issues of common interest and to maximize the impact of their activities. Shutafut-Sharakah mission priorities are the pursuit of equality, cooperation and an uncompromising commitment to democratic values in Israel, including the promotion of a shared society and the fight against racism and discrimination.

Main Projects / Activities

The Forums’ activities include: 1) Strengthening cooperations between civil society organisations – Advancing a shared society based on equality and democratic freedoms for Israel’s Arab and Jewish citizens and communities by implementing activities the strengthening of civil society cooperations and partnerships. Activities include regular ‘exchange of information and ideas’ meetings of forum members; media campaigns; conferences; outreach to other civil society organisations to join the Shutafut-Sharakah forum and/or to be part of planning and cooperations related to specific activities and optimization of human and financial resources to meet common goals of promoting a shared society and combating racism and discrimination that targets Israel’s Arab citizens. 2) Kifaya – Interactive website where Arab and Jewish citizens report acts of racism and discrimination ‘online and in real time’; reported acts are channeled by the websites administrator to the relevant forum member (or other relevant civil society organisation, government body) for the relevant response. 3) Conference Watch – Enhancing a shared space for Israel’s Arab and Jewish academics and professionals by increasing their visibility and representation at conferences and public events (a catalyzator for this initiative is the lack of Arab speakers in the majority of conferences and events held across the country). 4) Equal Access to Public Services – Increasing the use of Arabic in addition to Hebrew in public areas, in 2015 we will continue our activities through a campaign targeting the Israeli Railways. 5) Advancing Arabs through the media – enhancing the image of Arab citizens as an intrinsic and equal part of Israel society amongst Israel’s Jewish majority through the monitoring, recording and analyzing (Media Watch) of existing multi media and proactive media campaigns on selected thematic themes.
