These items are manufactured by people with special needs, at "Something Special" – a network of occupational centers with a different orientation. All the income from the sale of these items is devoted to rehabilitate people with special needs and to their wages.

Main Projects / Activities

The Cochav Hatzafon Association has established and operates occupational centers and sheltered employment for people with multiple disabilities (emotional, mental and physical) at three locations in the Western Galilee; in the city of Ma'alot, one on Kibbutz Matzuva and an additional center on Moshav Shomera, situated very close to the northern border fence.
The occupational centers of the Cochav Hatzafon Association operate continually as a one system network that allows for the integration of a wide variety of disabled persons while maintaining social bonding based on the criterion of interpersonal communication. In addition, it enables mobility of persons from one framework to the next according to their wishes and suitability for the group employed at the particular center.

General Information
Combatants for Peace  is a grassroots volunteer movement of 600 Israelis and Palestinians who took an active part in the cycle of violence and now work together to end it in non-violent ways. Our organization is composed of two branches, one run by Israelis and one run by Palestinians, with a total of 27 staff members. Each side is represented in five bi-national peace-building groups located throughout Israel and the West Bank. Having two branches as well as regional bi-national groups allows us to meet the needs of local communities and act in a culturally sensitive manner. The total budget is $148,000, with $200,000 equivalent in volunteers' contributions and in-kind support. We speak at parlor meetings, run joint Palestinian and Israeli community improvement projects such as olive picking, and host field trips to the West Bank. Main partners include Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, BSST UK, AJMuste Foundation, IWagePeace, and Firedoll Foundation.
Mission and Objectives

Our main, overall objective is to assist in the establishment of a viable Palestinian state alongside Israel. Our leading focus areas for 2013-14 are protecting the human rights of Palestinians and exposing Israeli policy makers, the media, and the general public to the situation in the West Bank. To raise awareness and promote understanding among both publics regarding the hopes and suffering of the other side and create partners for dialogue, we work to educate both sides about reconciliation and non-violent struggle and to put political pressure on both governments to demand that they stop the cycle of violence and the occupation and resume a constructive dialogue.

Main Projects / Activities

We conduct public tours in the Occupied Territories; initiate and participate in joint protest actions and peace rallies such as our Theater of the Oppressed; deliver community lectures and workshops; empower marginalized Palestinian communities in the areas of agriculture, protection of human rights, preventing demolition of houses, community development and all forms of non-violent struggle; and hold an annual Joint Israeli Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony, attended by more than 2,400 Israelis and Palestinians this year, where we remember the victims of violence on both sides. When we see each other as human beings and equals, we work to ensure just treatment for all.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are a respected organization in Israeli society. In addition, we are the only organization of which we are aware that has full support and recognition of the “anti-normalization committee” of the Palestinian Authority, which has approved all of our activities under the banner of the non-violent struggle. We are thus uniquely situated in a position to reach both populations. We actively work to protect the human rights of Palestinians through activities such as joint olive harvests and protesting building demolitions, and we work to educate the Israeli public as to the real situation in the West Bank. We provide a vital service in protecting human rights, and hope to include as many people as possible in this cause. Our Joint Remembrance Day Ceremony was attended by over 2,400 individuals in 2013, making it the largest single event in the peace camp.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

As a bi-national organization working to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians, we recognize the importance of establishing connections and networks between human rights and civil society organizations. The Anna Lindh Foundation ideals and goals are closely aligned with ours, as are many of the organizations supported by the ALF and those who are part of the network. The greater our access to like-minded organizations and individuals, the greater our ability to reach out to new groups and communities to spread our message of peace and non-violence throughout Israeli society including Jewish Israelis, Arab citizens of Israel, and Palestinians in the Occupied Territory. In addition, we were the recipients of the Anna Lindh Euro-Med Award for the Dialogue between Cultures in 2009. We were enriched by a close relationship with former Network Coordinator Gianluca Solera, and hope to continue working closely with the Anna Lindh Foundation and Network.

General Information
Comet-ME is an Israeli-Palestinian organization providing basic energy and clean-water services to off-grid communities using environmentally and socially sustainable methods. We facilitate social and economic empowerment of some of the poorest and most marginalized communities in the occupied Palestinian territories through the installation of renewable energy systems, provision of clean water services, capacity building, and reliable maintenance. Our work has developed out of a long-lasting relationship and commitment to the marginalized Palestinian communities in the south Hebron hills. Initially a voluntary initiative, Comet-ME carried out its first installations in 2006, and formally incorporated in Israel as a public benefit company in September 2009. Today, we are a vertically integrated utility, providing basic energy services to 20 communities encompassing over 1,500 people. In 2013 we entered the field of off-grid water pumping and filtration solutions, and in 2014 began providing clean-water services to the households in our energy install base. Comet-ME is currently the leading provider of sustainable rural electrification services in the region, and an innovator in the field of off-grid water technologies. Comet-ME employs 11 staff members – 6 Palestinian and 5 Israeli. We rely mostly on grants from international foreign offices and development agencies, as well as some private foundations. About 60% of our budget goes to electric and hardware components, purchased both internationally and locally. General Information

Funding is from the donations from sources such as the European Commission, EED, McGill University, Blaustein Foundation, Goldman Foundation, New Israel Fund,Jerusalem Foundation, Israeli ministries, etc. Modalilties are concrete projects, such as storefront rights advocacy centers in disadvantaged neighborhoods, community food cooperatives, activity and advocacy groups, etc. The organization is part of the McGill Middle East Program, consisting of community rights based practice organizations in Jordan, Palestine and Israel.
Mission and Objectives

Community Advocacy, established in 1993, is a voluntary community organization working for 16 years to strengthen the awareness of residents concerning their social rights in order to access and promote these rights as an expression of their empowerment as individuals and as a community.
Our primary goals are to teach residents to advocate on their own behalf or on behalf of their neighbors in order to access their legal entitlements, to find solutions to common problems and participate in decision making bodies which affect their lives; to provide information and expertise with regards to rights and entitlements and to conduct outreach in order to recruit volunteers, identify issues and understand the community from the perspectives of its residents.
Community Advocacy is unique in its approach to working with people in the community. The basis of our work is developing relationships among members of the community and professionals in order to empower individuals and the community as a whole, enabling them to make decisions and to develop their abilities to help themselves. While we disseminate information and provide expertise in the fields of welfare and law, we consciously enable the community, the people whose lives stand to be affected by programmatic decisions, to make their own determinations. The majority of our board members are residents elected from our local steering committees in Jerusalem, Beersheva and Lod. 75% of the members of our local steering committees, which are responsible for the policy decisions that guide the organization, are neighborhood residents.

Main Projects / Activities

Community Advocacy has branches in Jerusalem, Beersheva, Lod and in the unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Negev. Each branch has at least one storefront rights advocacy center, with a moble branch in the Negev. There are food cooperatives in disadvanted neighborhoods in Jerusalem (three coops), Beersheva and Kiryat Gat and one will be opened in Lod in 2009. The NGO has citizens groups active in such areas as urban renewal, nutritional security, the welfare to work program, universal dental care, public housing, etc. There is currently a Partnership for Peace project involving partners in Amman, East Jerusalem and Lod.
