Mission and Objectives

Organization Summary: Established in 1991, Windows is a joint Palestinian-Israeli educational organization that seeks to strengthen values of human rights, equality, and democracy among Palestinian and Israeli youth.
As an organization, we function through a unique triangle framework with equal representation of Palestinians from the Occupied Territories, Palestinian citizens of Israel and Jewish Israelis. Our flagship project is the production and distribution of Windows Hebrew Arabic Youth Magazine , a bilingual magazine written for and by Palestinian and Israeli youth. Our activities are designed to empower young people to be agents of change in their communities, leading their societies towards a more democratic and equitable future. Our work in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) focuses on education and community outreach programs that foster critical thinking, democratic values, and leadership among Palestinian youth.
Through our programs, Windows participants gain skills in journalism, verbal expression, and activism enabling them to become positive forces of change and development in their communities. We place a particular emphasis on reaching disadvantaged sectors of Palestinian society and we have extensive experience working in refugee camps and high-conflict areas. Through working with these populations, we provide disadvantaged youth with practical skills in journalism and expression, as well as a strengthened commitment to democratic values that enables them to be leaders in the development of Palestinian society.

Main Projects / Activities

At Windows we believe in the power of long-term programs, in the ability of youth to become change agents in the region, and in media as a tool to overcome stereotypes and fear. We invest in small groups of young people who use media to disseminate alternative information and thus serve as catalysts for social change through increasing access to knowledge in their communities and in society at large. During our Youth Media program, a multi-year, four-stage program, Windows participants go through a long-term process of growth and empowerment that focuses on media and critical thinking skills as methods to affect change in the region.
The Hebrew-Arabic Youth Magazine is the primary output of our Youth Media Program , and reflects the courageous and complex journey of our Youth Media Program participants. We complement these groups with large-scale activities including: in-school workshops for Palestinian and Israeli youth, as well as community outreach initiatives such as lectures, film screenings, and exhibitions.
