Overview
The Empowering Women Learning, Teaching, and Training Activity (LTTA) took place in Kristianstad, Sweden, from August 19th to 23rd, 2024. The event brought together participants from Malta and Lithuania, aiming to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices on empowering women. The week was structured around presentations, workshops, and discussions, focusing on local initiatives and strategies to enhance gender equality and support vulnerable women in society.
Day 1: Project Introduction and Icebreaker Activities
The first day began with a warm welcome and an introduction to the project. The organizers provided an overview of the LTTA's objectives, followed by an icebreaker activity that helped participants get to know each other and create a collaborative environment. This initial session set the tone for the week, emphasizing the importance of sharing experiences and fostering a supportive atmosphere for all involved.
Day 2: Red Cross Presentation and Equality Workshop
On the second day, Håkan Andersson from the Red Cross delivered a presentation on the organization's local work in Kristianstad, highlighting their efforts to support vulnerable communities. Following this, participants from Malta, Lithuania, and Sweden presented their perspectives on gender equality, sharing insights into the challenges and progress in their respective countries. The day concluded with a workshop focused on equality in society, where participants engaged in discussions on how to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for women at various levels.
Day 3: Study Visit and Discussion
The third day featured a presentation by Karin Arndt, Jessica Oredsson, and Anna Johansson from Stadsmissionen Café David in Kristianstad. They shared their experiences working with marginalized groups in the local community, providing valuable insights into the practical challenges and successes of their initiatives.
This was followed by an in-depth discussion about the study visit, allowing participants to reflect on what they had learned and consider how these approaches could be adapted and applied in their own contexts.
Day 4: Presentation by Kvinnojouren and Discussion
On the fourth day, Siv Persson from Kvinnojouren in Kristianstad presented on the organization's work to support vulnerable women in the area. Her presentation covered the services provided by Kvinnojouren, including crisis support, legal assistance, and advocacy for women facing domestic violence and other forms of abuse. The presentation was followed by a discussion, where participants shared their thoughts on the importance of such services and explored ways to enhance support for women in their communities.
Day 5: Project Review, Toolkit Presentation, and Evaluation
The final day focused on reviewing the project's progress and discussing its future potential. Participants recognized the need for continued education and information to effectively empower young women in today's society. The session included a presentation of a booklet and toolkit developed during the project, which provides practical resources for supporting women's empowerment. The week concluded with an evaluation of the training, where participants provided feedback on the activities and shared their overall impressions. The event ended on a positive note with a summary of the week's achievements and the awarding of certificates to all participants.
CONCLUSION
The Empowering Women LTTA in Kristianstad was a significant step towards building a network of committed individuals and organizations working to promote gender equality. The diverse perspectives and experiences shared during the week enriched the discussions and provided valuable insights into the different approaches to empowering women across Europe.
