“A sea of words” receives 283 short stories

The contest “A sea of words” has attracted the participation of 283 young writers from 34 countries, the second highest number since the contest is held. With 49 short stories, Egypt is the country that has submitted the most, followed by Italy (32), Morocco (26), Palestine (22) and Rumania (17).

In this year’s edition 137 stories were submitted by women while 146 were from men, who have increased their participation in comparison to the previous contest, which had more female presence (95) than male (70).

The submission period of the 5th edition of the international contest “A sea of words”, jointly organized by European Institute of the Mediterranean and the Anna Lindh Foundation, came to an end on last 30th of June. In the next step of the contest, every National Network will choose five stories from their respective country.

Next, an international jury will select the 14 young authors that will travel to Barcelona in the autumn between those short-listed from the 34 countries. In the Catalan capital, they will participate in the awards presentation ceremony and in a program of cultural activities both in Barcelona and Gerona.
