The outline strategy of the Anna Lindh Foundation’s new programme “Translation for Dialogue” was put together during the first steering committee meeting held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on the 11th of February 2016, in Alexandria, Egypt.
The meeting gathered a group of experts in the field of translation from the region, who accompanied the development of the programme throughout the past years. A consultation process with the experts concluded with a fruitful discussion and development of the new concept “Translation for Dialogue”. In addition, the discussion summarized and highlighted the main topics of discussion and the format of the up-coming Euro - Mediterranean Translation for Intercultural Dialogue Conference that will be held in Slovenia in June 2016.
The Executive Director, Ambassador Hatem Atallah, concluded the meeting acknowledging the contribution of the experts adding; “The insight and the expertise of the experts participating were truly appreciated as they allowed ALF to gather the necessary elements to properly prepare for an important program. We are confident that with the elements received; the new program and the up-coming conference will open new perspectives for all actors in the field of intercultural-dialogue which the foundation promotes through all its endeavors”.
The Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) has the strategic intent to invest in building a regional programme for translation, with a focus on advocating for the central role of translation as an instrument in the promotion of intercultural dialogue across the Euro-Mediterranean space.
This intent is part of the Anna Lindh Foundation’s new, long-term strategy “Working Together Towards 2025”, backed by the 42 Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and in line with the renewed “people-centric” European Neighbourhood Policy of the EU.
The steering committee meeting has been chaired by the Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation; Ambassador Hatem Atallah and with the participation of; Alexandra Buchler, Hakan Ozkan, Ambassador Hugues Moret, Katja Stergar, Khaled El Khamissi, Luis Miguel Canada, Maria Pakkala, Noha Omar, Renad Qubbaj and Yana Genova.
