General Information
PROACTION FILM is a legally registered private company run by 3 partners, 7 employeed staff. Company resources are generated from film sales and co-production financing. For not-for-profit projects resources are entirely subsidies from international, regional and local financiers, donnars and sponsors. The work modle in the company is project based. Some projects however, are annual (such as DOX BOX). Main partners of the company over the years are: NAAS (Beirut), the Jan Vrijman Fund (NL), IMS (DK), StoryDoc (GR), EDN (DK), ARTEEAST (USA)
Mission and Objectives

PROACTION FILM is a small Syrian Film & TV Production & Distribution Company established in late 2002 mainly by filmmakers and producers. Three years after the establishment, the team of realized that their capacity and objectives are not being met within the main-stream film & TV industry conditions and standards where the space and place to practice self-expression or tackle reality is very limited if not absent.
As of 2005, PROACTION FILM started initiating and producing independent productions of personal and creative aspects, established an independent creative documentary festival, and extended that with a regional independent capacity building arm that involves youth filmmakers, both females and males with a clear focus on originality of project, creativity and social values and special focus on gender, society, and children.
Today PROACTION FILM produces such films, programs and activitiesreflecting the team's capacities and objectives.
In PROACTION FILM, we seek integrity and independency in what we do. We invite others to join us to make a positive change. That is why we need to reach more people, succeed and make available for those who want to join the tangible resources by which they can make the commitment. Thus, securing feasibility and visibility for what we advocate is a must.
As filmmakers, producers, distributors and cultural events curators and organizers we believe, that no single specific form of development is needed. It is a challenge that we seek as it sustains our integrity and commitment and enables us to practice a balanced existence.
We believe in what Art & Culture, in general, can do to improve life.
Hence, were the cultural and social priorities that we are challenged to meet in projects and activities we do:
Pluralism
Creativity
Visibility
Sustainability
Progress

Main Projects / Activities

PROACTION FILM produces creative independent documentary films in Syria and in co-production with regional, european and international partners. These are highly creative doc films. The team also run DOX BOX which is the independent & international Documentary Film festival in Syria that takes place every year in March offering free-of-charge public screenings in 6 screens over 9 days. DOX BOX is also designed with a capacity-building activity "DOX BOX CAMPUS" which is a 7-day program for regional filmmakers developing authentic doc films. Part of DOX BOX "industry activities" are networking sessions, discussion pannels, lectures, publication distribution. The festival is the not-for-profit project of teh company and its financing generates from international funds and support from local and regional entities including those of commercial nature.
In 2009, the team initiated a cultural distribution program with a clear concept and title "WOMAN" and recieved HIVOS support. Up till 2012, this program supported 12 doc films to screen publically and on TV in the Arabic-speaking countries (more than 47 screening achieved). Allocation were targeted also to support the local and regional female filmmakers.
This included re-versioning of international & european films into Arabic, onlining, promotion & some with funding to finish the films .. etc.
