Project "Persian carpet" refers to the Persian traditional decorative art, which is the heritage of the country. At the same time Persian carpets were objects of desire and trade around the world, gradually becoming a piece of equipment household in every latitude. The title object is thus a symbol of the contribution of the local culture of a region to global culture. The project aims to show the cultural diversity as a positive value, greatly enriching local culture. The organizers want to extend the operating concept of culture by pointing to alternative cultural patterns.

FEPS is concentrated on projects concerning media monitoring, enhancing the development of civil society in Poland and Eastern neighbors as well as on studies of German history and politics.
Mission and Objectives

FEPS was founded in order to enhance and facilitate high quality interdisciplinary research in Social Sciences and Humanities, to promote new methodological approaches and to link academics, ambitious students and practitioners. This way, FEPS also contributes to the bottom-up reform of the Polish system of higher education - by promoting best practices and connecting ambitious researchers from Poland with their counterparts in other countries.
FEPS works in four main areas: the contemporary German studies, media and public opinion, the condition of the European Union, and Transitional Justice. All our programs are interdisciplinary and engage political scientists, philosophers, sociologists, historians and social psychologists, but we also welcome contributions from other disciplines. Beyond these the Foundation runs activities aimed at improving the think tank environment in Poland.

One of the most important ones that just has been finished was to reveal the shortcomings of information to the public from the media regarding the social impact of Polish intervention in Afghanistan. Another monitoring project concentrates on specifying and improving the exchange of information and the level of coordination between the different local, regional and national representatives of Poland (members of the EU’s Committee of the Regions, of the Sejm’s Committee for European Affairs, the regional MPs and NGOs and the local and regional administration). Another important project named ‘Think Tank Generator’ aims to attract Polish and German students to write texts suitable for Think Tanks requirements. FEPS runs also variety of projects concentrated on supporting non-formal education, from August 2011 there are seminars run in Belarus among youth workers, educators and teachers.

Mission and Objectives

The Foundation for Social Diversity (FSD) is an independent, non-government organization committed to developing an open and inclusive society in Poland in the context of cultural, religious, ethnic and racial diversity. We are also interested in a critical study of the history of social diversity in Poland as a meaningful contribution to the debate on contemporary issues and experiences of migration, discrimination and integration. We believe that an interdisciplinary approach is crucial to overcoming the greatest challenges that confront the full realization of policies and practices that ensure equal treatment and inclusion in the context of social diversity.

The FSD works in the following three activity areas: Contribute to research that increases knowledge about social diversity, integration and inclusion, and develops concrete tools to support social integration and inclusion. Foster public debate on issues broadly related to social diversity. Create space for exchange and cooperation between social leaders and institutions working to support individuals and social groups who are at risk of social exclusion or discrimination as a result of their race, religion, nationality, ethnic background. Provide support to individuals and communities, such as migrants, multicultural schools, representatives of public administration working with migrants.

General Information
About us The intention behind the establishment of the Lech Wałęsa Institute was, first and foremost, to bring together many social groups around the never-ageing ideas of state decentralisation, ethics in politics and neccessity to nurture the tradition of independence. Creation of an expert platform supporting Lech Wałęsa allowed him to work for the benefit of Poland, both home and abroad. The foundation was a very special institution among the then functioning NGOs, since it was to mirror the American example of presidential libraries and foundations established by the former heads of state. Let us emphasize, though, that neither the structure of this institution nor its material activity have ever enjoyed any support from the state budget. Over fifteen years of the Institute's activity (establised in 1995) mean both international and national presence, as well as publishing activity. It is particularly the international presence of the Polish Nobel Peace Prize Laureate enjoying wonderful worldwide response that proves how worthwhile it was to undertake the challenges of supporting President Lech Wałęsa in that mission. The organizing of many significant trips during which Lech Wałęsa meets with politicians and business people, academic circles and Polish communities living abroad, has constituted a major part in the Institute's activity. As for the domestic scene, the Institute has played an important role in integrating social and political circles, once part of the August 1980 movement, around the concept of the country's reform and decentralization of the state. All such respective actions have been carried out in response to the occurring socio-political and economic transformations. The Institute has initiated many debates analyzing the issues of local government and transformations of the political system. The resulting conclusions have been often presented in a form of a programmatic publication, as was the case of a kind of a manifesto of the Polish right-wing post-Solidarity formation being reborn in 1997, namely the "Report on the Condition of the Republic of Poland and on the Means to Improve it." Many of the diagnoses included in the publication have proved just and some postulates were implemented in 1997-2001. The Institute was also a strong advocate of Poland joining the European Union by frequently encouraging discussion on those issues with the circles being fervent opponents to the idea. After the integration process and after Poland's accession to the European Community, the Institute has continuously promoted the values of aware membership as well as the knowledge on the EU's institutions.
Mission and Objectives

Another mission of the Institute is to support pro-democratic movements. We carry the "Solidarity with ..." programmes - this is how we realize the postulates of international solidarity to be with people fighting for their right to freedom.

Main Projects / Activities

During recent years, the Institute organized the celebrations of the most important anniversaries of the "Solidarity" movement along with other non-governmental organizations that promote the "Solidarity" heritage.
All the projects implemented as part of the Institute's statutory activities, such as conferences, workshops, seminars, discussions, and different activities involving young people, carried out both at the Institute's Warsaw seat, nationwide, and abroad, demonstrate the Institute's continuous involvement and commitment to its mission. Many of those activities have been registered in the Chronicles published by the Institute, post-conference publications, or have been made accessible to the public on the Internet.http://www.ilw.org.pl/en/12,26,what_we_do

The idea of the Foundation was born in 2007 with the start of the Afryka.org website. While running the first Polish internet service about Africa we realized the great opportunities given by the Web for increased knowledge sharing and communication.
