Wednesday 18th of October, The Learning Network on Decolonization invites Sibo Rugwiza Kanobana for an opening lecture on race, class and whiteness.

What does it mean to be white? Should we use the word white or blank (a synonym used in Dutch language)? In this lecture Sibo Rugwiza Kanobana explores how systematic racism is reflected in our vocabulary and how we can have a better understanding of racial exclusion and class division in a European context by analyzing our language use.

Sibo is lector in sociolinguistics and postcolonial studies at Ghent University and Open University of the Netherlands and writer of various publications on diversity, racism and decolonization. This lecture builds upon his new book White order. On race, class and whiteness that will be published in 2024.

When: Wednesday 18 October from 7.30 pm – 9 pm
