General Information

Horizon pour le développement et la citoyenneté is an active Tunisian NGO, born from the passion of a few youngsters who wanted to take action and make a change in the society after the Tunisian revolution in January 14, 2011. We focus on national and international networking among young people, students, trainers and teachers. We tackle topics such as inter-cultural exchange, non-formal education, ecology, sustainable development, Entrepreneurship, citizenship and national policies. We have an experience in youth field (Euromed Youth projects: international youth exchanges, Salto trainings, Erasmus+, OFAJ trainings ...).
We are aware of our social responsibility as youth and we are willing to be more active and dynamic and use our potential in a good and useful way. We aim at acquiring new skills and using them for young people around us to make them realize the power, energy and potential they have. Participation of young people, Community development, Human Rights, Intercultural dialogue and Volunteering are some of the topic we are focused on.
We aim to initiate, promote and implement sustainable and active development measures regarding the quality of life, seeking to build a responsible and active society in terms of cultural, educational, social and entrepreneurial spirit development.

Mission and Objectives

Our Missions:
- To establish in the Tunisian youth some important notions such as: citizenship, creativity, democracy, equality and freedom of speech.
- To help the youth to better develop their lives and levels through trainings in different fields.
- To develop in the Tunisian youth the notion of tolerance, acceptance and dialogue of religions and civilizations through youth exchanges programs, volunteering and intercultural training.

Main Projects / Activities

1. Training Course: Radicalization and Extremism: December 2017: Toulouse (France)
This training is funded by the German and French Office of youth. And The workshop tackles reasons and causes leading to Violent Extremism. Participants from Germany, Tunisia and France looked at the measures in place to ensure an Internet of Trust in the wake of violent extremism that is becoming a major challenge for many societies and is threatening the security and fundamental rights of citizens all over the world. In this training we focused in the role of Media to reduce dangers of Extremism and fight against radicalization.

2. Training Course: Radicalization: youth workers roles and responsibilities
December 2018, (Dresden, German)
This Training is also funded by the OFAJ German and French Office of youth. It aims to offer a space for reflection, sharing practices and exploring their interdependencies, between youth workers and other kinds of practitioners working in the field of building resilience against young people's violent radicalization.
During this training participants were seeking for more effective approaches and strategies to respond to this challenge. In this seminar, participants agreed that realities of this emerging trend make it necessary to emphasise the need to work with young people in Europe and its neighbouring regions, in order to strengthen their resilience to violent radicalisation, and reinforce the openness and inclusiveness of the communities in which they live using social media channels.

3. Youth Exchange: Hannibal, leçon de la l’espace ouvert, May 2016 (Nabeul, Tunisia)
This project is funded by Euromedyouth programme
The cultural wealth of the world is its diversity in dialogue. Proceeding on that quote, comes the idea for this project that meet the management of cultural diversity on the Euro- Mediterranean region. Each event is a lesson, provided to draw good morals. Hannibal inspires us a beautiful lesson of cultural heritage as a factor for dialogue, peace and social cohesion.

This project is a positive reaction to the stereotypes of religious and cultural practices that have led to the appearance of discrimination and hatred. (Islamophobia and Islamophobic acts have increased especially after the waves of illegal immigration and terrorist actions that lead to confusion between diversity and extremism). This youth exchange project focuses on intercultural dialogue and the role of history not to read the past, but to read the future by
learning intercultural skills responding to diversity in equal dignity.

4. “young rowers... face sailboats”: youth exchange: In 2013 we have organized a youth exchange that tackled the theme of illegal immigration in the Euromed region. It was funded by Euromed youth program with the participation of many partners that face the same problem like Italy, Morocco, France, Egypt.. https://web.facebook.com/groups/203616323148111/
This project contributes to the current actions of the Euro-Mediterranean community in the field migration. This is an initiative in synergy with the efforts to address the problem of illegal immigration.
We tackle topics like minorities rights, social and economic rights, role of civil society and importance of cooperation between both side of the Mediterranean sea countries.
« Jeunes Rameurs ... face aux Voiliers » “young rowers... face sailboats” : aimed at Creating a space for discussion, development of a reflection on the issues of illegal immigration, strengthen operational commitment and cooperation of civil society in the management of illegal immigration.

Participants had the opportunity to get new or deepen their knowledge in youth migration & mobility, minorities and share best practices with their colleagues and spent quality time for introspection and reflection of their work and future collaborations. They will learn how to work within their communities and how to use different tools and techniques basically arts creations, cinema, theater and social Media.

5. Perspectives against Unemployment: (Brendisi, Italy, 2016) it’s an Erasmus+ project about promotion and valuing of territories and cultures. In this project Participants discovered, created and reflected on their future opportunities. Tourism and promotion of territory represent an important activity and one of the most powerful economic resources.

6. Feel Food: (Brendisi, Italy 2016) Erasmus youth exchange that aims to the valorisation of EuroMed food in order to promote solidary tourism in rural area.

7. Free rural Women: It’s about youth work empowerment of rural women, especially in terms of providing opportunities for self-assessment, development of skills and competences and by giving practical support in the attainment of self-realization. The promotion of young women employability through non-formal education. In this project we focused on the concept of entrepreneurship, the competences needed both for the target groups and youth workers and above all we intend to set an inter-sectorial partnership among participants for future cooperation.

8. Neet Worker: (Zakopani, Poland, 2018) The main aim of the project is to provide a space, for 14 organisations from Erasmus+ programme and partner countries, to establish new partnerships and exchange good practices in the field of social inclusion (focusing on young people in NEET situation). The other important part of the seminar will be a “Tool fair” where each of the organisation will have a chance to implement their workshop, using methods or techniques they use in their daily-based work with the target group they work with.

9. To be employed or not: ( Akcakoca, Turkey, 2017) Erasmus Youth exchange about the employment and unemployment problem that appears as the most important and social problem facing us. The concept of unemployment which causes deep impacts on economic and social impacts has great importance and poses danger especially for a specific group. Those who are mostly affected among these groups by the unemployment are the young.
In this context, overall aim of the project is to create new ideas which will focus on employment of the youngsters by promoting their creativity and entrepreneurship and their active participation in labor market.

10. Youth Megaphone: Decision makers: This project started from one consideration: young people issued from minorities communities are social actors who express in a more ambitious and idealistic way concepts related to democratic participation but, at the same time, they represent the category that, more than others, expresses its disaffection for the political world, although youth policies, in particular, should be aimed to youngsters’ involvement in decision making being their protagonists. Young people should be considered as a real resource in which to invest, without neglecting their role as citizens aware, critical and active participants in the development of society. Equally youth policies should be aimed to youths in order to guarantee a real involvement in decision making processes not only as beneficiaries but principally as actors. Mass Media was one of the best ways to help those young to be more involved.

11. Wind of change through innovative actions: it’s a KA2 project that aims to help the unemployed minorities to be involved economically in their societies. We believe that one of solutions for the current young unemployment passes through the development and training on the ICT based capabilities. Thanks to this project we take part in helping our target groups offering training sessions for youth workers and young people within mobility activities.

12. 4R, Roma, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle : (Craiova, Romania, 2021) This project aims to bring together youth from 7 countries (Romania, Turkey, Greece, Tunisia, Serbia, Croatia,Italy) in order to realize a business based on products from recyclable materials. This project involved 35 participants from 7 countries for 5 days in Craiova, Romania in a dialogue with local youth authorities, with youth leaders, to identify the effects of social entrepreneurship based on green recycling in the social integration of the Roma minority.

13. Startup your future: we are currently working in this project with close collaboration with TALENT HUB (entrepreneurial training center). This project is funded by the international German cooperation Agency (GIZ). The general aim of the project is to create new projects which will focus on employment of the youngsters by promoting their creativity and entrepreneurship skills and their active participation in labor market.

14. Artists for rural solidarity tourism: this project is funded by the Tunisian ministry of youth and sport. The aim is to valorize rural heritage and enhance natural resources of the rural communities in order to enhance a rural solidary tourism. This project involved local actors and European painters that would create drawings to be sold on line for the benefit of those rural areas.

General Information

Damma is an organization built by young and middle-aged Syrian women, who left Syria a important leaders and contributors in negotiating peace in their local city of Al-Zabadani. When the safety risks became too high, the women of the Damma group had to leave to Lebanon, where the group settled in the Valley of Beqaa. Damma core team, hence, is a group of Syrian female refugees themselves. Damma established an office in the heart of Beqaa, a community center and a educational center, providing basic services and support to the Syrian women and children finding themselves in difficult states of displacement. Many of Damma’s members and leaders have since been forced to leave Lebanon as well, due to risk of persecutions and lack of legal protections as for all Syrians and migrants generally in Lebanon. Nevertheless, today a strong team of Syrian women, men and youth are running Damma’s office and centers, and continue to be closely linked to the local communities with whom they work with. Our approaches are holistic, in the sense that we seek to provide both educational, protection and livelihood activities to the women, youth and children in Bekaa. Damma's physical presence in Bekaa, means that it remains able to perceive the needs of our communities; and better measure genuine impact.
Damma's management team is based in Bekaa, closed to its field teams working in the impoverished communities across West and Central Bekaa. The annual budget used to be above 400K USD per year, however today it doesn't exceed 200K USD. The sources of funding are received from different INGOS, such as Kinder not Hilfen, Heinrich Böll Stiftung and Kvinna till Kvinna (through Sub-grants).

Mission and Objectives

Founded as a community-based feminist movement (2013) by a group of women from different ages and beliefs in Zabadani, Syria. Damma provided all possible relief for children, women and injured during the years of heavy conflict. Damma was hereafter displaced to Lebanon and registered as a Lebanese civil entity in 2017, seeking to support displaced Syrian women and children. We believe that women are vital mediators for social reintegration and coexistence; and vital bridge-builders between communities and accountability mechanisms. Damma is committed to impartiality; and enhancement of women's well-being disconnected from political agendas.

Main Projects / Activities

- Provisions of Knowledge, Education and Awareness to Syrian Women – through conduction of political empowerment programs and advocacy campaigns. This also entails vocational training and capacity building to strengthen women’s role in conflict resolution and decision-making.
- Contributing to knowledge production – through participating in development of research studies
- Protection Responses – enabling women and their children to become capable of becoming agents of their own lives and societal change
- Being the voice of Syrian women in displacement, disregarded donor agendas. And being the open ‘space’ available to support on legal issues through referral to capable legal support providers or other service providers.
- Damma supports women leaders to become engaged in supporting other women once they feel empowered themselves with the aim of fostering cohesion and dialogue between different Syrian actors

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

To build more nuanced narratives about Syrians in Lebanon, i.e., Damma can contribute to building a dialogue based on mutual respect and understanding between host and refugee communities across Lebanon. As part of dismantling the structural violence and discriminatory discourses against Syrians living (involuntarily) in Lebanon, and contribute to peaceful coexistence.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We believe that Damma has a lot to contribute with, representing some of the most marginalised communities in the region who are all eager to share their stories and learn about others'. Similarly, does Damma represent various female-leadership experiences, on both national regional and international level, which we believe are very inspirational, and should be shared with our peers across the region.

Mission and Objectives

At Dayra we believe we’re disruptors with a new business model that embodies what a social and sustainable enterprise should be. Our innovation strategy is proactive, through introducing a new business model and creating a new market niche for second-hand preowned affordable fashion and fashion upcycling.

Vision: Dayra is a revolutionary platform that closes the fashion loop by expanding our sustainability horizon beyond selling preowned /second-hand garments to establishing a sustainable design ecosystem by creating an interconnected network and economically empowering young artisans, designers, and entrepreneurs who are committed to upcycling and sustainable fashion practices.

We advance sustainability, ethics, and circularity in the entire fashion system. We work with those who make, sell, buy, wear, dispose, reuse, repair, and recycle clothes. Our role is to remove barriers to sustainability through education, awareness, research, and collaboration

mission: Driving the transition of making sustainable fashion the number one consumer choice in the MENA region
values:
Sustainability: our commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of the fashion industry by reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting circularity.

Transparency: Providing clear information throughout the supply chain about the brand's materials, production processes, and social impact to build trust with consumers and encourage accountability.

Social Responsibility: Create job opportunities, improve the well-being of target beneficiaries in the local communities and support initiatives that empower and uplift marginalized groups.

Quality and Durability: Focusing on creating high-quality products that are built to last, promoting a shift away from fast fashion's disposable culture. By emphasizing durability and timeless design, we encourage consumers to invest in long-lasting pieces rather than constantly buying new items.

Collaboration and Partnerships: Recognizing the collective effort required to achieve sustainability goals, we collaborate with like-minded fashion designers, organizations, nonprofits, and initiatives. By working together, they can amplify their impact and drive positive change within the industry.

Main Projects / Activities

All our solutions point to keeping surplus and discarded materials in the fashion loop for longer, only in Egypt we have more than 23 million tonnes of discarded fabric waste annually.
With this in mind, Dayra strives to promote sustainable and eco-friendly fashion through the reuse of pre-owned clothing and turning clothes with defects into new products by upcycling through our fashion designers' partners.

Another problem is the rising prices of fashion in the market driven by fast-fashion retailers dominating the local market, buying high-quality clothes is not even an option for the majority of Egyptians after the Egyptian pound devaluation. Dayra is making high-quality fashion affordable and accessible to the Egyptian masses.

We advance sustainability, ethics, and circularity in the entire fashion system. We work with those who make, sell, buy, wear, dispose, reuse, repair, and recycle clothes. Our role is to remove barriers to sustainability through education, awareness, research, and collaboration.
Dayra’s ideology is ‘fashion items are no longer disposable, but part of the eternal cycle of inspiration’. We extend the lifecycle of products through upcycling.

Our offering is divided into four categories:
1) Deadstock/discarded fabric that’s turned into new designs
2) One-of-a-kind secondhand garments that customers won’t find anywhere else.
3) Authentic vintage clothing.
4) Upcycled pieces that are customized, reimagined and redesigned.

We are committed to mindful production, sustainability, and circular fashion reducing the amount of fashion waste going to landfill and making sustainable, upcycled fashion more accessible and affordable for the average customer.

Building on the success and impact created throughout the past 4 years, we are expanding our scope of work and influence in our local communities by introducing our project ‘’Mn Qomash’’ a collaborative project with the Egyptian clothing bank to empower women through utilizing clothes and fabric waste to reduce its negative environmental impact.
The project objective is to empower women economically to be able to overcome the economic challenges they face, especially during this fluctuating economic situation in Egypt.

The capacity-building intervention will equip the selected women with the needed skill sets that will enable them to pursue a tailoring and fashion design business. In addition, the utilization of clothes/textile waste to create unique and trendy wearable pieces made up of upcycled materials will promote the responsible consumption and production of materials and resources. This will greatly reduce the clothes/textile waste and promote an upcycling mindset among fashion designers which will ultimately impact the pressing issue of climate change.
We launched the first fully funded 9-month scholarship program for upcycling and sustainable fashion in strategic partnership with the Egyptian clothing bank, Noqoush Art Academy, and Giza Systems (software company) to train 50 emerging fashion designers of professional sewing and upcycling also fashion software tools, leveraging on Dayra's market exposure to sell their upcycled collection beside a lot of business-related courses throughout the program duration.
The program has many partners and sponsors for the public and the private sector one of which is Ahli United Bank and Carrefour Egypt, The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Initiative (DEDI), the Ministry of Culture in Egypt, and many others. The other rounds of Mn Qomash are to happen on a concurrent basis with other frequent customized programs that happen throughout the year.

Utilize Dayra's platform to advocate for sustainable fashion and raise awareness about the importance of ethical and environmentally friendly practices. We can leverage our marketing channels, social media presence, and events to promote sustainable fashion, encourage conscious consumerism, and advocate for positive change within the industry. By amplifying the message of the Anna Lindh Foundation and incorporating it into our brand's values, we can reach a wider audience and inspire others to join the movement.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

I have been working hard for the past years to build a venture that can create a real impact and grow with success. I always seek new learning opportunities and challenges that help me grow as a person and this will be reflected in any position I am assigned to. I believe that this is the perfect time to seek international exposure that will definitely contribute to my personal and professional growth, and also add to my previous experience.

It is crucial to gain a wide understanding of the different challenges facing our world and unite with other social change-makers to work towards common goals and make the change we always dreamt of. This kind of experience will help me create a new perspective and gain new insights after seeing the bigger picture to come up with more innovative solutions that can make a greater impact on the global and local levels. For Dayra, I want to understand more about how the Western world is up to sustainability and circular economy. It's about time to change the whole world's narrative to speak and apply sustainable and conscious living
By becoming a member of the Anna Lindh Foundation Network, Dayra can contribute to advocacy efforts and have a voice in promoting cultural understanding, social cohesion, and sustainable development. By actively participating in the network's activities, members can influence policies, shape narratives, and advocate for positive change at local, regional, and international levels.

Furthermore, we are super excited to explore this network that may provide access to resources, funding opportunities, and grants that can support us and our initiatives.

Through the Anna Lindh Foundation Network we can reach a wider audience, increase visibility, and create a bigger impact by fostering cultural exchange, respecting diversity, and building bridges between different cultures may want to join the network to actively contribute to these goals.

General Information

We are a non-profit organization at the intersection of youth work, development cooperation and education. We have 7 staff for 5.4 FTE. We have an annual turnover of +- 700.000 €. We raise funds from corporate sponsorships, grants and our own income from the YOUCA Action Day.

Mission and Objectives

YOUCA, YOUth for Change and Action, is an organization for and by young people that encourages them to work together for a sustainable and just society. We do this by making them aware of important social challenges and by supporting them in their engagement. We also provide unique encounters with impact on cultural, business and public life.

Main Projects / Activities

Every year we organize the YOUCA Action Day. More than 15,000 young people from Flanders and Brussels commit themselves to spend a day working for a company, an organization, a government or a private individual. The wages they earn on that school day go to projects of committed young people worldwide. Each year, one project from a certain country takes center stage, choosing a theme that becomes that year's focus. In 2024, it's about a healthy environment in Burundi and last year about sexual violence in Senegal. But throughout the rest of the year, YOUCA is also the place where young people make their voices heard. We do this through, among other things: - An ambassador program: Each year, 5 ambassadors are selected to be the focal point of the campaign and represent YOUCA. They completely immerse themselves in the theme we are focusing on that year and engage in conversations with all activists, organizations and young people. They will also go on an exchange to the project country, to Burundi in 2024. - Community Connectors: Together, interested young people immerse themselves throughout the year in the annual theme in Belgium and figure out how to bring about change through action. - School Ambassadorship: In the 200 schools where YOUCA is active there are school ambassadors everywhere who represent YOUCA in their school and motivate the other students to get involved, for example for the YOUCA Action Day. - European exchange: we believe in bringing like-minded young people together at the European level, through our umbrella SAME or in 2025 also around influencing climate policy with the European Development Institute. - Participation behind the scenes: board, working groups,.... Without young people there is no YOUCA. Everywhere and at every level, young people are involved in the work. For a lot of activities, young people help organize and work groups are created. The board consists of 90% young people. - Loose activities such as an action weekend, volunteer boot camp, demonstrations, election event, fun moments,.... At YOUCA all young people between 15 and 25 are welcome. We focus on Flanders and Brussels.Every year about 300 young people take part in one or more of our activities. A group of 50 young people are involved close to our operation at all levels and in decisions. All these young people share that they are touched by what is happening in the world, locally or globally, and want to contribute to change.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

YOUCA Action Day. This is always a youth project in the Global South linked to a Belgian NGO. We would like to transform this from 2025 to funding 3 smaller projects on an annual basis: one outside Europe, one outside Belgium in Europe and one in Belgium. We do not currently have a European network to find projects to fund so hope to reach out to organizations through you.
