General Information
The artistic pedagogic youth organisation “Sxedia stin poli” was founded in 1999 as an informal group and since 2007 it has the legal form of a non-profit, non-governmental organisation. It has a 5-member steering board, 2 staff members and a pool of around 50 volunteers. They are educators, artists, social scientists, animators etc. with a strong commitment in communication and social awareness through arts. Our organisation has an average annual budget of 22,000€, from private donations by individuals (members and friends), workshop and seminar fees and mainly project financing by public or other non-profit institutions. Our activities include regular creativity workshops for children, educational projects for social awareness in schools, open events for young people in the city with our partner organisations (NGOs for Roma youth, refugees, children who lack parental care etc.), adult education and international youth exchanges on youth topics with our international partners with similar objectives.
Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to raise awareness of children and young people on various social issues through cultural and educational activities, to run voluntary activities in support of children with fewer opportunities, to train volunteers on sustainable learning, to promote volunteerism and solidarity, empower creative youth participation and foster cooperation of NGOs and young people.
Accordingly our objectives are children and youth, forward-thinking education, human rights, social awareness and solidarity and volunteerinsm.

Main Projects / Activities

“Schedia stin poli” runs projects for children with fewer opportunities (children with immigrant, refugee, Roma or vulnerable socio-economic background), such as the weekly  “Children’s Hangout”, in cooperation with the Greek Council for Refugees, SOS Children’s Villages at al., or workshops at public Primary Schools on children rights, diversity and discrimination. The organization has implemented projects such as Roma social circus and anti-racism week workshops at schools, as part of Thessaloniki European Youth Capital 2014, while in 2016-2018 it held activities for refugee children and youngsters in cooperation with INTERSOS Hellas and UNHCR. Moreover, street art activities, as well as other social and cultural events are carried out by “Schedia stin poli”, alone or jointly with other NGOs of Thessaloniki, active in the local network. Apart from the local level, the organisation has national, European and international partners, mainly in Erasmus+ funded projects, such as a KA3 3-year project on drama in education, currently implemented, as well as numerous youth exchanges and training courses.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are eager to join the meetings and share our rich and long experience on our objectives. We are particularly active and well connected at the local level and we want to multiply the effects inside a wide and well-structured network. We believe that our insight working with the community and our activities in Thessaloniki, Greece and beyond can be a useful material for the network. Of course our aspiration is to become an active member of the network and make it function to the mutual benefit of all members.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We strongly believe in the power of networks and the mutual interest of its members it cultivates. The networks, especially of the kind and scale of Anna Lindh constitute multipiers of the effectiveness and the capacity of its members, given they are active and committed. Our primary goal in joining ALF Network is networking: we want to meet more organisations from the focus area, create new partnerships and find new project opportunities, since all of our greatest activities have been in partnership with other NGOs. This is how we can empower a big number of youngsters, influence policy makers and ultimately make a change in our societies.
