General Information

Since founding, volunteers are in charge and lead all the activities and we have no employees. Annual budget vary from 1.000 to 5.000 BAM, mainly acquired by projects, donations, and ticket and participation fees. Our main activities evolve around theatre and drama education; using of drama in education and life and organization/participation in various youth exchange projects, that strive to provide safe and all-inclusive environment for youth from different backgrounds to get to learn and create together. We are well established and collaborate with numerous theatres and NGOs (such as DIS Banjaluka, MtM Mostar, GKM Vitez, NGO „Leptir“ Bugojno etc)

Mission and Objectives

Inspire children and youth to think, imagine and actively participate in creation of communities open for all differences and specificities, using drama education and performing arts. To ignite transforming of children and youth of BH from passive viewers to successful, creative, curious and compassionate persons able to cope with challenges of the modern world. To encourage children and youth to question, explore, search and efficiently communicate their needs. Create innovative, engaging and critical plays/performances, thus empowering emotional intelligence, inter-group dialogue, compromise, collaboration and creativity.

Main Projects / Activities

- Creation of at least three plays/performances per year (puppets, for children and for youth)
- Participate/collaborate in at least four projects in local community (local art festivals, collaboration with NGO „Leptir“ with children and youth with special needs;
- Initiate at least two collaboration projects (youth camps, training, theatre workshops, art classes, puppetry/scene/prop creating workshops, etc) with theatre groups and NGOs from B&H
- Participate in at least three BH festivals of children/youth theatre

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

DP Eko Art is well-established children and youth theatre that use drama education as the main tool. We (individually and as a group) have significant experience in process drama, theatre-in-education (TiE), forum and physical theatre, etc. Our leader is drama pedagogue (certified by Centre for Drama Education BH) and a social justice/gender equality trainer (certified by Step by Step), with significant experience in both fields. We have significant administrative and managerial experience in creating, initiating, organizing or co-organizing in large youth events, such as theatre camps (BuJaMo 2017 and 2018, as a part of BH youth support to students from Jajce who stood up to further segregation; SolidArt – project of 3 BH communities using performing arts as awareness raising tool on marginalized groups; PriT – applied theatre as community awareness; numerous exchange camps, training and worskhops, etc).

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We believe that one of very few sustainable and long-term guarantees for peace is opening of horizons of children and youth, thus counter existing segregation and narrow-minded narratives of three ethnic/religious groups. We believe that our determination to address and dismantle stereotypes which generate prejudices, gender inequality and all forms of violence in society is shared by numerous NGOs in B&H and region. Unfortunately, without networking and building strong civil society i.e. strong, opinionated and vocal children and youth, changes in the discriminatory and segregational practices and policies of BH society will not change (segregation in education and society; discrimination of minority groups and rights; etc). To this, we can certainly contribute with our experience and resources.

We maintain two youth centres, one in Simin Han (Federation) and one in Krizevici (Republika Srpska) which are visited by marginalized youth at the age from 15-27 years. We offer various national and international activities: e.g. informal education, intercultural communication, ecological projects and cultural events. IPAK is implementing programs and projects in both Bosnia and Herzegovina’s entity (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina & Republika Srpska). In that sense, international volunteers will have opportunity to work in urban and rural parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the frame of the program YOUTH we sent a volunteer in 2004 to Germany. Our partner organization/ host organization was Friedenskreis Halle. We organized in March 2007 in the frame of the action 1 a multilateral youth exchange in Krizevici (RN 2006-3145). Youth groups out of Germany, Lithuania, Serbia and Bosnia participated.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

With its policies of open dialogue and continuing academic exploration of existing public narratives, especially in the context of war-stricken Bosnia-Herzegovina that is still suffocating in post-war traumas and recurring nationalistic turmoil almost three decades post-war, the University SSST is deeply committed to empowering new voices, especially within its existing Political Science and International Relations Faculty, to engage and inspire change within its own micro communities and wider. This is why the University SSST is adamant in spearheading various research activates and projects concerning vulnerable groups (such as migrant and migration phenomena which has now reached a critical phase especially in the Western Balkans, but also now in Western Europe with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict) and reexamining national politics within the global context. We believe that activities already rooted in the University programs are mirroring the ALF's efforts on an international scale, as our students are not just active within the proposed project activities of our departments, but also develop social consciousness early on which enables them to be progressive and effective in creating positive change.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We believe that membership to the ALF Network, besides participating in a wide-range, strong and cohesive network for enabling positive change in policymaking processes, would provide us with the opportunity to engage with similar organizations with research background, enhancing possibilities for a more substantial impact through project activities on a lager scale. The University SSST is also the initiator of the Mediterranean Forum, previously known as Dubrovnik Talks, an event created to provide a unique geopolitical and scientific platform addressing global economic, political and scientific issues in the context of Mediterranean area. This international conference has been involving various researchers in social, medical, natural, computer and other sciences since 2017, and has particularly been focused on migrant crisis in the region, with the aim of establishing potential policy solutions in a growing humanitarian crisis. We trust that our University's mission and vision are compatible with the overall purpose of the ALF Network, and we are looking forward to establishing mutually beneficial collaboration.

General Information

The University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (the University SSST) was opened in October 2004 in Sarajevo as the first private University in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dedicated to providing internationally competitive education, SSST established collaboration with the University of Buckingham (United Kingdom), and is today the only private University in BiH offering its graduates a dual degree. Through this collaboration, SSST is the only University in the region of South-Eastern Europe monitored by the UK's Quality Assurance Agency. University SSST employs internationally educated academic staff currently numbering 112 members. SSST along with its founding MET Foundation are offering a number of scholarships, with the possibility of extending the scholarship decision, subject to the candidate meeting of all the requirements stipulated by the SSST Scholarship Rules and Regulations, with more then 10 international partners and organizations providing full and partial scholarships. With more then 50 universities, research institutes and facilities acting as partners in projects as well as curricular activities, SSST boast a significant collaborative network engaged within various granting schemes, mainly European Union (Erasmus+ programs) and other similar opportunities.

Mission and Objectives

The main mission of the University SSST is to offer an internationally acclaimed, high-quality education on par with highest rated word universities. To fulfil its mandate for excellence, the University SSST has put together an internationally educated and ambitious Faculty, many of whose members come to us from the world's leading universities (MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Georgetown, and Imperial College). The Faculty is actively engaged in research projects within their fields, remaining at the forefront of their profession’s advances both in terms of research and innovative teaching methodology. Our University employs one professor for every four students – the highest ratio in the region and wider – while our system of academic advising ensures that professors and teaching assistants are available for daily consultations and are charged with individual monitoring of each student's academic progress. The University SSST curriculum, taught entirely in English language, seeks not only to transfer technical skills and academic knowledge but also to build confident and globally-minded graduates, prepared for the challenging international environment. SSST is one of the top regional universities, ranked #571-580 in QS World University Rankings 2019.

Warm up 15. Bedem fest: Public Invitation for young bands from Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina

The non-governmental organization Pro Futuro Nikšić, Montenegro, in cooperation with the Youth Resource Center (ORC) from Tuzla, is issuing a Public Call for young bands from Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in the music program of the 15th Bedem Fest, which will be held from 22-24. August at the Fortress in Nikšić. The application deadline will last until June 1. In the specified period, young bands from Montenegro should send their applications to:

petarsundic@yahoo.com

and young bands from Bosnia and Herzegovina to:

orctuzla@bih.net.ba

The application should contain the name of the band, a short biography, a profile on social networks, a video if there is one and/or at least one recording.

"At the end of the 20-day deadline for applications, on June 2, we will publish the final list of applied bands. After that, we will use a special platform to let followers of social networks, followers of Bedem Fest, the Youth Resource Center and the Youth Network of Bosnia and Herzegovina choose to allow one band from Montenegro and one band from Bosnia and Herzegovina who have the most votes to participate in the 15th. Bedem fest. We provided travel expenses, accommodation and fees for the bands".

"Serving as a good example, Bedem fest wants to encourage and encourage other festivals in the region to create a bigger space for providing the opportunity for young unestablished bands to participate in the music program and accompanying contents of the festival, in order to promote their author's work in front of a wide audience, gain important experiences, met with their peers, used media publicity. We connect young people from Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bedem Fest, culture and cultural life with personal and social identity. The participation of young bands at the Bedem Fest will be an important experience for them, enabling them, along with the concert, to get to know other societies and social groups and to foster interculturality, understanding, appreciation and nurturing diversity together through cultural activities. The acquired reference will mean a lot in the development of further careers of young bands, points out Petar Šundić, project manager.

"The project "We can do it together" was financed at the first call of the Youth Cultural Fund of the Western Balkans, which is implemented by the Regional Office for Youth Cooperation (RYCO), with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project aims to support the activism of young people and those who deal with young people in the field of culture and offer creative solutions for social and political issues in the Western Balkans, contributing to regional cooperation, intercultural dialogue, peace building and reconciliation. The project will contribute to the improvement of regional cooperation of cultural workers and enable innovative ways of implementing various cultural and artistic activities that would have a regional component and contribute to intercultural learning and dialogue, peace building and reconciliation".
