General Information
We have one permanent member of staff, our Coordinator, who is based in Belgium. She is managed by our Board of seven members. Our work is carried out by activists from around Europe and further afield, coordinated by our staff member. Our budget for the current financial year is €36,000, which covers the salary of our staff member, travel, subsistence and office costs, and specific projects. Currently, our funding comes mainly from our member organisations (Western Sahara solidarity organisations in several countries), trade unions, large charities and individual donations. Our core activities are lobbying and campaigning.
Mission and Objectives

WSRW aims to preserve the natural resources in occupied Western Sahara for the usage of its people, inasmuch as their sovereignty over those resources is a right with erga omnes character enshrined in numerous UN resolutions and international human rights instruments.
Our objectives:
-To affirm the sovereignty of the Saharawi people over their natural resources
-To break the link between the exploitation of natural resources and the funding of the Moroccan occupation
-To stop and prevent foreign companies from exploitation of natural resources in Western Sahara in disregard of the wishes and interests of the Saharawi people.
-To encourage and support legal actions against companies, governments or multinational organisations that participate in illegal exploration or exploitation activities in Western Sahara.
-To disseminate information and evidence documenting natural resource exploitation in Western Sahara
-To forge a network of organisations that promote the rights of the Saharawi people over their natural resources.

Main Projects / Activities

Our principal activities involve lobbying corporations and organisations guilty of illegally plundering the natural resources of the Saharawi people, thereby supporting the continued abuse of Saharawi human rights on the part of Morocco.
We also lobby for inclusion of human rights monitoring in the mandate of the UN Mission to Western Sahara and work in solidarity with Saharawi human rights activists living in the Occupied Territories.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Our specific knowledge and successes lobbying on natural resource issues could be of value for several other network members. In addition, our experience of working as a network spanning several countries could also be useful in terms of good practice sharing.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We wish to find new partners, get involved in network activities and programmes and be eligible to apply for grants to support our human rights work.

General Information

WIFTM Belgium was founded in 2020 as an organisation to promote and work on gender equality in the television, film and media sector. Since we just started our resources and number of staff is limited, however, we expect it to grow on a rapid rate. Our sources of funding are private donations as well as government grants. Our partners are to be announced

Mission and Objectives

WIFTM Belgium supports and engages members from all over Belgium to grow, advance and support their careers and businesses through networking opportunities, mentorship, information sharing, professional development and events for its members and the public. Through these activities, we want to create an inclusive community that unites people in film, television and media, at all stages of their careers, and allows our WIFTM community to be a positive example for these sectors.

Main Projects / Activities

WIFTM Conference: A WIFTM conference is organized annually. During this congress national and international speakers are invited and all kinds of information sessions, screenings, activities and competitions take place. This is also the time of year to gather as many of our members as possible in one place and introduce them to each other. WIFTM Connect: At least one event is organized every quarter where we gather as many members as possible. Events are organized with a view to networking, giving advice and debating. WIFTM Legal: WIFTM Legal is a discreet, advisory body that you can contact free of charge for legal issues on various topics linked to our sector. WIFTM Database: In order to encourage more production houses, media companies and institutes to achieve a balanced gender balance, WIFTM will create a public database to which the contact details of all women active in the media sector (from directors to journalists) can be added voluntarily. In this way, all companies and institutes in the sector have a tool within reach to recruit more women so we are one step closer to that healthy balance. WIFTM content: WIFTM TV is our content platform where we will frequently produce and upload informative content in the form of tutorials, interviews, podcasts and live streams. All our content can be consulted at www.wiftm.be/content WIFTM Research: WIFTM Research is one of the foundations of our organization. Scientific research is required to bring come to action. Figures and research increase the journalistic value of our association. In addition, substantiated figures and expert research are the building blocks for change. This is especially the case within traditional institutions and politics. All our investigations and reports are published publicly. WIFTM Workshops: Every year we offer several young talents the opportunity to take an 8-week course of their choice at the renowned Los Angeles Film School and London Film School. WIFTM Space: The WIFTM hub is our initiative in which we offer workspaces and office spaces free of charge for starting female entrepreneurs, researcher and filmmakers. We provide various meeting rooms, a whole range of workshops and facility rooms. This creative hotbed is the ground zero for the next generation of strong women who will shape our sector to our ideals.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We can provide organisational support to other projects linked to gender equality. Our database of women working in the film, television and media sector can be consulted to find the right person to work on your project. Our research regarding gender equality in our domain will be published publically. We can promote other projects on our WIFTM Content channel and live events.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

WIFTM Belgium is a chapter of the Women In Film International network. Our goal is to not only work on gender equality locally but to bring the challenge to the international play. We strive for women to be represented, seen, treated and paid equally in all sectors around the world. To reach this goal we must bundle our forces and work together.
