General Information

School+ is a 'learning network' of researchers and practitioners in the field of education (schools, counselling centres, civil servants, civil society organisations...). It is co-ordinated by HIVA (K.U.Leuven) and sponsored by non-governmental organisations and the National Lottery of Belgium. Its staff consists of a part-time project manager and a part-time researcher.

Mission and Objectives

Fight against social exclusion in education through mutual learning and dissemination of knowledge.

Main Projects / Activities

Publication of a guide for project promoters (Desmedt & Nicaise, 2005) and a handbook for equal opportunities in education (Nicaise & Desmedt, 2008); organisation of exchanges and training sessions; strategic consulting; a website for dissemination of information.

SCI Belgium is a member of SCI International, an international voluntary service organisation with 40 branches in Asia and Europe and more than 50 partners in Eastern Europe, Africa, North and Latin America, that was founded after the First World War. Mission and Objectives

SCI Belgium is an NGO and youth organization whose mission is to promote peace, intercultural understanding, solidarity, social justice and ecology through voluntary projects and educative work. The main objective of SCI s to give the opportunity to volunteers to enlarge their view of the world and to encourage active citizenship.

Main Projects / Activities

At an international level: The main method used by SCI to promote its values is short and long term international voluntary service projects. More than 5000 volunteers participate in these activities every year, including East-West and North-South exchanges. SCI also organises international seminars and solidarity campaigns, education and training courses. The activities cover a wide range of fields including: antiracism, North South solidarity, intercultural dialogue, migrations, ecology, peace and conflict resolution, etc. At a national level: Every year, SCI Belgium sends about 200 volunteers abroad. The volunteers who participate to this intercultural exchange program have to take part in a training including different sessions. SCI Belgium also runs many raising awareness activities in youth groups (in schools and associations). The volunteers can also get involved in different action groups which aims are to treat themes (such as migrations, North-South relationships, globalization issues, Latin American, African or Mediterranean issues, etc) in order to raise awareness and knowledge about them. They do that through articles, conferences, solidarity actions, etc.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

By - Exchanging good practices in the field of youth work, intercultural dialogue and non-formal education - Bringing together youth organizations, youth workers or activists working on promotion of peace and involved in their day to day life with topics such as: conflict resolution, intercultural dialogue, non-violent communication and peace education at a local, national and international level - Developing new mobility projects, reinforcing Euromediterranean co-operation - Promoting reciprocity within youth exchanges

Search for Common Ground works to prevent and end violent conflict before, during, and after a crisis. Search has a 32-year track record of equipping individuals and societies to find alternatives to violence. We strive to build sustainable peace for generations to come by working with all sides of a conflict, providing the tools needed to work together and find constructive solutions. We work in 35 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, with 88% of our staff working in their home countries.
Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to transform the way the world deals with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. Instead of tearing down an existing world, we focus on constructing a new one. We do this through a type of peacebuilding called “conflict transformation.” We shift the everyday interactions between hostile groups of people, so they can work
together to build up their community, choosing joint problem-solving over violent means.

Main Projects / Activities

Conflict and differences are inevitable. Violence is not. We harness conflict for constructive change. Search works at all levels of society to build sustainable peace through three main avenues: Dialogue+, Media+, and Community+.
DIALOGUE+
Whether at the local or national level, we bring people together across dividing lines to discover and achieve shared goals. We work with those traditionally in power and those without a platform, often women and youth.Examples: mediation, training youth leaders, back channel diplomacy, and more.
MEDIA+
While a dialogue affects dozens, media impacts millions. We use media to stir up thoughts and discussions across a whole society about the root causes of violence and how to overcome differences.Examples: TV dramas, call-in radio shows, music videos, and more.
COMMUNITY+
We provide a safe space for people to work out their conflicts at the local level. With some creative thinking, we bring divided communities, neighbors, and families together to discover their common humanity.Examples: soccer matches, participatory theater, shared farming projects, and more.

General Information
SERV is an advisory and social dialogue organization operating in Flanders(Belgium). SERV is a bipartite council consisting of trade union representatives and employers' organizations. It is financed by the Flemish government and has a staff of around 80 people. It acts as an international partner in projects of capacity building for social dialogue and understanding. Within SERV different topics are treated such as diversity management, economy, training and education, labour market, employment policies, sustainable development and others . Experts are available for participating in training, workshops, seminars or for organizing study visits in Flanders-Belgium.
Mission and Objectives

SERV is a strategic advisory council for topics closely related to the social and economic consultation: work and labour market, economy, energy and the services for general government policy.
It also advises on the budget of the Flemish Community on an annual basis. The advice comments on government and parliamentary initiatives from a socio-economic angle.
SERV is also facilitating the social dialogue between social partners (bipartite) as well as on a tripartite level in cooperation with the Flemish Government thus concluding agreements.

Main Projects / Activities

Over the years, SERV has acquired extensive expertise in other social and economic fields such as: the environment, renewable energy, industrial policy, efficient government, employment agreements, the relationship between education and the job market developing competencies.
SERV also coordinates the networks of sector consultants and closely monitors the operation of the sector agreements between the Flemish Government and the sectors. Within the SERV there is a Competency Team working on ‘Competent’. This is a dynamic database that includes professional competency profiles that describe which activities are performed in professional contexts and what someone needs to know and be able to do in order to adequately carry out the activities.
International projects concern social dialogue training in Central and Eastern Europe and in Southern Africa with ILO and EU funding.

We are convinced that the way in which the social partners in Flanders consult with each other and try to reach agreements is a good practice in European context. Des acteurs privés nous sont également apporté leur soutien : d'Ieteren Group, Besix, Volta et la Fondation Roi Baudouin.
Nous disposons d'un budget annuel total de 3.486.981 € (2022).
Nos activités d'éducation permanente sont réalisées avec le concours de nombreux partenaires (partenariats gratuits) dont les Villes de Namur, Liège et Bruxelles, le Service Social des étrangers (SSE), la « Chom'hier », « l'Ufled » et le CNCD.

Nous proposons des activités de soutien social, juridique et psychologique, des formations en insertion socio-professionnelle (ISP) et des activités d’Éducation permanente à un public qui est en grande partie étranger. Nos activités s'orientent donc en grande partie dans une visée d'accueil et d'aide à l'intégration de ce public.
Nos services juridiques et sociaux visent à aider les bénéficiaires dans leurs démarches administratives et judiciaires liées à leur titre de séjour, au regroupement familial, à l'accès aux services sociaux belges. Un service d'aide aux justiciables permet aussi un accompagnement psychologique de détenus étrangers.
Le SASB est aussi la branche belge du Service social international (SSI) qui assiste dans des situations personnelles ou familiales nécessitant une intervention coordonnée entre deux ou plusieurs pays.
Nos formations en ISP orientent vers les métiers de la construction (maçonnerie, électricité, menuiserie), de l'automobile (mécanique), du textile (cuir, daim, textile), de la bureautique et de l'Horeca.
Nos activités d'éducation permanente visent à développer auprès d'un public adulte, sur base volontaire, les clés d'une émancipation citoyenne collective et individuelle. Il s'agit de comprendre et exercer ses droits, de s'informer de manière critique sur la société et d'agir sur celle-ci dans le respect des libertés de chacun·e.
Enfin, notre association développe un service d'économie sociale permettant la formation par le travail de personnes demandeuses d'emploi (technicien·nes de surface et agent d'accueil).

Main Projects / Activities

La formation en ISP, le services sociaux et juridiques et l'éducation permanente constituent nos principaux projets.
Nous détaillerons ici nos activités d'Éducation permanente (EP). Notre service d'EP est actif en région bruxelloise, en Province de Namur et en Province de Liège. Nous sommes d'abord actifs sur le terrain de l'animation: environ 1100 heures d'animation (475 activités) sont données chaque année auprès d'environ 2500 personnes. Ces animations s'articulent sur 4 thématiques: l'intégration dans le lieux de vie (connaitre ses droits, interculturalité, éducation aux médias...), les inégalités de droit et les conflits qui en résultent (mondialisation, géopolitique), la citoyenneté belge et européenne (les institutions) et la Santé publique. Pour travailler ces thématiques, nous organisons des groupes de discussion et de réflexion, des marches exploratoires ou encore des visites thématiques.
Nos activités d'EP incluent aussi des événements publics dont notre festival annuel (Let's Art) qui met en valeur la culture d'un peuple ou d'un pays par une expo photo, une projection-débat et un concert. Il s'agit de valoriser cette culture et sa communauté en Belgique et de sensibiliser aux enjeux sociopolitiques qui y ont trait.
Nous réalisons aussi un travail de recherche en publiant environ 15 analyses et études sur des questions de société, consultables sur notre site.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Notre association dispose d'abord d'une certaine expérience dans l'organisation d'activités visant à bâtir une société inclusive et à sensibiliser le public aux inégalités, aux droits fondamentaux ici en Belgique, mais également ailleurs en Europe et dans le monde. Nous organisons quotidiennement des animations d'Éducation permanente qui visent pour une grande partie à traiter de questions (inter)culturelles souvent en lien avec la culture belge et celle de pays méditerranéens, une grande partie de notre public étant d'origine arabe, turque ou berbère. Nous travaillons aussi régulièrement des enjeux liés aux stéréotypes et à la discrimination, à l'exercice des droits fondamentaux ou à la participation au débat public. Nous pouvons ainsi partager des savoirs et bonnes pratiques avec toute association intéressée par nos thématiques de travail ou à la recherche d'outils pédagogiques propres à certains publics (public alpha en apprentissage du français, public primo-arrivant, public senior). Nous sommes souvent à la recherche d'associations partenaires pour nos projets, en particulier lorsqu'il s'agit d'organisations liées à une communauté particulière que nous souhaitons mettre en avant dans un événement public pour laquelle leur expertise est la bienvenue. Nous pouvons ainsi offrir des possibilités de partenariats et de visibilité à d'autres organismes. Dans les circonstances actuelles, notre association devrait aussi avoir la capacité d'accueillir des représentants d'autres organismes pour l'organisation de formations ou de séances d'information.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Le SIREAS, en tant qu'organisation fondée sur la solidarité et l'inclusion, voit en la FAL un réseau d'organismes aux valeurs similaires que nous gagnerions à mieux connaitre. La FAL peut donc être pour nous un moyen d'étendre notre réseau de partenaires, de bénéficier d'un partage de ressources avec d'autres associations ici en Belgique, voire de l'autre côté de la méditerranée. Parce que les valeurs qui fondent la FAL sont aussi essentiellement les nôtres, nous souhaitons simplement apporter notre contribution au projet de la Fondation. De par nos différents axes de travail, nous sommes témoins d'importante injustices en matière justice migratoire, de droit à l'égalité de traitement, lesquelles trouvent souvent leur fondement dans le cloisonnement des cultures et l'exacerbation des différences identitaires contre lesquelles il revient d'agir de concert. L'organisation de formations ou d'appels à projets par la FAL nous semble aussi être une perspective intéressante pour développer notre activité et renforcer nos capacités.

General Information
International Volunteering Service (SVI) is a Belgian pluralistic youth organization run by and for young people, by and for volunteers. Apolitical and non-religious, SVI is opened to all and everyone, without discrimination of nationality, philosophy, financial resources, education or sexual orientation. SVI is registered in Belgium as a non-profit organization. The association mainly works in the field of international volunteering, but also in the areas of youth exchanges and intercultural exchanges between young Europeans and the rest of the world.  
Mission and Objectives

The organization aims at generating young people interest (from 18 to 30 years old) in international volunteerism. One of its goals is also to promote citizenship, solidarity and mobility among young European as well as between young European and young people from other parts of the world. SVI tries to make international volunteering accessible to all and to raise awareness about the danger and misleading role of humanitarian tourism (voluntourism).

Main Projects / Activities

Every year, our association sends about 500 volunteers to international workcamps. We suggest them a wide range of projects  (environmental, social or cultural) located in more than 70 countries around the world. We aim at making our projects accessible to all, regardless of their age, financial resources or skills.
Volunteers who take part to those projects have the opportunity to live with a local community, to discover the association world and to get involved in a project with other volunteers coming from all over the world and to live together a rewarding experience.
Every year also, our association host about 100 volunteers on our short and long term projects in Belgium. All our hosting projects are completly free of charge for the volunteers member of a partner organization.

Socius betekent metgezel, tochtgenoot. Socius wil als steunpunt de reisgezel zijn van de sector en van zij die erin werken. In de missie van Socius zijn naast de belangrijkste doelgroepen ook de kerntaken van het steunpunt opgenomen en de wijze waarop deze worden gerealiseerd. Daarmee vormt de Socius-missie het kloppend hart achter de werking van het steunpunt.
