It was held in the auditorium of the “Museu Nacional dos Coches” in Lisbon.

The concert took place under the auspices of the Anna Lindh Foundation, which launched and funded the "Celebrating the Mediterranean" event consisting of 36 community-based music performances, performed simultaneously in 25 Euromed countries, by local multicultural groups in public spaces in collaboration with Local Administrations.

The aim was to celebrate our shared identity, common heritage and love for the Mediterranean, strengthening the ties between the two shores of the sea.

Among the guests was Mrs Ianara Mota Pinto, Council Member of Culture, Tourism and Citizenship of the City Council of Belém.

Tiny Waves

This Sunday, April 2nd, Associação Cultural Luso-Grega - Parafonia is organizing the "Tiny Waves" creative workshop developed by EFATA Ateliers Nomades and held from 16:00 to 18:00 at the National Pantheon. The event begins with a visit to the exhibition "Thalassa! Thalassa!", based on the poems of the famous poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (1919-2004), inspired by her travels to the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea.

The coordinators will invite participants to capture the flow of words, colors and emotions that will emerge during the visit, to write down the words, lines, shapes, textures, sensations and emotions felt, and eventually recreate their own narratives or stories woven around "Thalassa! Thalassa!" between words and images. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the watercolor technique.

At 18:30 the film "Correspondências" will be shown in the Panteão, based on the exchange of correspondence between Sophia de Mello Breyner and the writer Jorge de Sena, with English subtitles. Event participants are welcome to attend.

EFATA Ateliers Nomades is a platform with the mission to establish exchanges around the arts and their technical, creative, cultural, historical and expressive dimensions. The platform typically develops and implements tailor-made educational projects, cultural mediation plans, curatorial services, as well as workshops and meetings around artistic practices, exhibitions or places that we look at through the prism of art, its history, its multidimensional implications, and challenges.

At the "Thalassa! Thalassa!exhibition, the sea and the Mediterranean bring works from the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection into dialogue with the words of the writer. A game of mirrors between the works of names like Júlio Pomar, Menez, Julião Sarmento, João Hogan, Paulo Nozolino, José M. Rodrigues or António Ole and about 25 poems, presented here in a Greek translation.

Traveling Exhibition in Portuguese Speaking Countries

الصورة
Outros Fundamentos, Aline Motta, 2017-2019

The exhibition "Que mar se vê afinal da minha língua?" opened in Armazém das Artes and Central-Periférica in Alcobaça on December 16, 2023, and will tour various cities in the Portuguese-speaking world. It's a mutant exhibition that brings together half a hundred works by more than 20 artists from different Portuguese-speaking countries and territories. After Alcobaça, where it will be on show until March 3, 2024, the exhibition will move on to Fortaleza, Mindelo, Luanda, Maputo and Macau.

This project is the result of an ongoing research process by curator Margarida Saraiva into contemporary artistic practices in the Portuguese-speaking world. It brings together dozens of works by various artists and disciplines such as photography, video, cinema, poetry, painting, sculpture and new media.

The thematic approach of this project is based on crucial issues such as memory and history, colonization and decolonization, identities and globalization half a century after the 25th of April 1974, without ceasing to question the future: what will become of the Portuguese-speaking world in two or three centuries' time? What will become of freedom in a world run by algorithms and obsessed with surveillance in private, public and digital spaces?

"Que mar se vê afinal da minha língua?" has the support of the Macao SAR Government's Culture Development Fund, Alcobaça City Council, the Portuguese Institute of the Orient and the Orient Foundation; and media partners O Alcoa, Jornal das Caldas, Comunidade Cultura e Arte, Plataforma Macau, Hoje Macau, Ponto Final and Macau Closer.

The exhibition is sponsored by Babel Associação Cultural and  is co-organized by Armazém das Artes, Central-Periférica and REDE de Residências Artísticas dos Mundos de Expressão Portuguesa. Babel is also a member of the Anna Lindh Foundation's Portuguese Network and its mission is to create research and learning opportunities in the fields of contemporary art, architecture and the environment.

Babel is conceived as a museum without walls and aims to work across cultures and disciplines. To achieve its objectives, it establishes regional and international partnerships with institutions of recognized educational and cultural merit. Thus, a spirit of collaboration and synergy is essential to fulfilling its mission. Founded in Macau in 2013, BABEL also established itself in Alcobaça in 2022, where it has supported artists at risk, particularly those fleeing war or oppression.

General Information
Not for profit association with a staff of 3 persons plus several regular colaborators. Funded by portuguese and european public institutions and also by co-producers. Average anual budget between 75.000 and 175.000 euros. Producing performing arts (performances, workshops, community based work)with several public and private partners (national theatres, foundations, neighbourhood authorities etc).
Mission and Objectives

Visões Úteis (which in portuguese stands for “Useful Visions”) is an artistic project, with a theatrical inspiration, based in Porto since 1994. A very personal artistic project, producing itself, a multidisciplinary project, using collaborative processes which invite all artists involved to take part in a very special commitment.
In Visões Úteis, the aesthetical project has been growing along with a very strong ethical— we can even say political— commitment, in a constant reflexion about the contemporary sense of making art— and specially performing arts— which is decisive to the daily working options and gives us an accurate sense of our political and social responsibility towards the community we live in.

Main Projects / Activities

Considering the year of 2013 we could point: A bycicle opera along the city river (inspired by the pollution of the water), a community performance in the underground (inspired by the boarders between social groups) and a theatrical performance (inspired by the relation between information and democracy). And also the participation in several learning/networking projects with partners from Greece, Ireland, France, Italy, Sweden and Germany.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are members of PLATEIA (the only formal association of theatre companies in Portugal). And also one of the few portuguese members of IETM - International Network for the contemporary performing arts. So we could say networks are a vital part of our DNA. Thus, we belive that, after some time, we could contribute to bring more members (mainly from the north region but not only) to the network. And of course, we would give more visibility to the network by linking our mission to the one of the network.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Because, in the last years, networking and collaborating with south european partners has become crucial for us. Not only for pratical reasons (trying to escape to the finantial constraints of working alone) but specially to make a proper sense of our role in Europe, both as portuguese and artists.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

It is our point of view that we can contribute to the Network in various ways. First of all, by being a young NGO, from a region where we are really lacking them, we have gained powerful insights in the importance of CSO in creating and ensuring Intercultural Dialogue. We are very active, be it in the sessions we are conducting, but also in participating in other networks events, and we would surely mark presence in the ones from this Network. Last but not least, we are skilled in non-formal education, and well connected with relevant stakeholders, which can be very valuable for the network.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We want to join the network because we identify with its priorities, see it as a powerful networking tool, to create meaningful partnerships and capacitate our members, with the high quality work developed by this network. We want to contribute to it and ensure that it is active and going well in Portugal, as we recognize the huge importance of networks such as this in ensuring meaningful intercultural dialogue and youth participation. Lastly, we see it as a funding opportunity, to better allow us to reach a higher number of youngsters, and to better work with them.

General Information

https://www.youthforhumanrights.org/about-us/purpose-of-youth-for-human-rights.html About Us Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001 by Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, an educator born and raised in apartheid South Africa, where she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of discrimination and the lack of basic human rights.

Mission and Objectives

The purpose of YHRI is to teach youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and inspire them to become advocates for tolerance and peace. YHRI has now grown into a global movement, including hundreds of groups, clubs and chapters around the world.

Main Projects / Activities

Youth for Human Rights International teaches human rights education both in the classroom and in nontraditional educational settings. We aim to reach people from diverse backgrounds, with materials which often appeal across generations. By teaching human rights through all means—from conferences and workshops to hip-hop and dancing—this message has spread around the world.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Our materials include the UNITED music video—a street-savvy, multiethnic, anti-bullying message that has captured the imagination of people around the world. Our 30 short public service message videos depict the 30 Articles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In less than a minute, youth can learn one of their human rights—and all of them in less than half an hour. The videos have garnered media attention as well, airing on television networks in countries worldwide. But it doesn’t end there. The videos are now airing during halftime on stadium screens, within taxicabs, on supermarket screens, in theaters, railway stations, and many other locations

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We have inspired people to walk, race racecars, paint murals and hold small gatherings with youth groups and orphanages, as well as large open-air concerts. Our human rights videos and curricula fill the schoolrooms and halls of learning with the simple messages of what our human rights are. We realize the importance of collaborating with like-minded individuals and groups to expand our horizons and learn from them their hard-earned lessons, and so expand and reach youth on all continents.
