- Democracy and community development
The Alanya City Council acts as a bridge between the people of Alanya and the administration by bringing different groups and environments in Alanya together on the same platform and saying "We are managing together." In this context, we can say that participatory, democratic, and multi-actor management principles are realized in city governance. City Councils crown local democracy and show that they are schools of democracy.
The Alanya City Council, with its assemblies and working groups opened for interest groups, is a home for everyone regardless of any political views, ideology, language, religion, race, or sect. According to its regulations, no political formation or entity can be accepted in the Alanya City Council.
With its democratic structure, the Alanya City Council has become one of the most active city councils in Turkey and served as the President of the Turkey City Councils Platform in the 16th term. The Alanya City Council represents the roof of civil society in Alanya with a total of 4 assemblies, including Youth, Women, Children, and Disabled City, and 33 working groups based on areas of interest. We serve with hundreds of volunteers in our assemblies and working groups, saying "Our Common Ground Alanya".
City Councils are democratic structures aimed at activating a multi-actor management model composed of government, private sector, and civil society organizations at the local level, to create a common mind and bring governance down from the top to the bottom. In other words, City Councils aim to create a management model and development policy based on local governance principles at the local level, through a partnership between central government, local government, civil society organizations, the private sector, and the local people.
The Alanya City Council is an example of the Kent Councils, a democratic governance model based on the principle of local governance. Kent Councils aim to create a common understanding between government, private sector, and civil society organizations at the local level and bring governance from top to bottom. The Alanya City Council serves as a bridge between different groups and environments, bringing together the Alanya community and the government. This structure demonstrates the realization of participatory, democratic, and multi-actor governance principles.
Kent Councils such as the Alanya City Council are examples of local democracies with many positive aspects. Some of these are:
Creating Common Sense: Kent Councils aim to create a common sense among local government, private sector, and civil society organizations. This makes planning, policy making, and decision-making processes regarding the city's future more participatory and democratic.
Transparency in Governance: Kent Councils ensure that the governance processes are transparent and accountable. This allows the public to be informed about the city's governance and participate in decisions.
Participatory Governance: Kent Councils are structures that realize participatory, democratic, and multi-actor governance principles. This allows respect for the opinions and demands of all groups and environments living in the city and leads to fair and diverse city governance.
Strengthening Civil Society: Kent Councils increase democratization and social participation by ensuring the participation of civil society organizations and citizens in city governance. This makes civil society organizations stronger and more effective.
Bridge Function: Kent Councils bring together different groups and environments, acting as a bridge between the city's people and its administration. This increases direct citizen participation in city governance and makes the governance process more diverse and participatory.
