A rich cultural and religious heritage has survived the virtual extinction of the Jewish Community in Egypt: synagogues, cemeteries, religious artefacts, archives. Survivors and descendants of this community across the world have ensured that its history and traditions are preserved. Our International Association ( À but Non Lucratif ) has received the mandate of various european national associations in this field to spearhead this effort in Egypt. We therefore strive for the preservation and continuous management, in accordance with tradition, of the religious and cultural heritage, of the assets, archives and the civil and religious registers of the Jewish Community in Egypt.
To inform and create awareness of the need for preservation, and accompany and support all actions to that effect, both in Egypt (Minister of Culture, Council of Antiquities, MFA) and in France (Quai d’Orsay)
We now wish to create information and educational material on the history of the Community and its surviving heritage, leading to a conference and a programme targeting youth, to improve perceptions by the younger generations, facilitate reconciliation and coexistence efforts in the Euro-Mediterranean region. This information could be offered to tourists by the existing communities, accompany the Project of a Jewish Museum and the planned restoration of various Synagogues by the Egyptian Government.
