Balkan Express is a platform that connects people interested in collaboration in and with the Balkans involved in contemporary art and complementary socially engaged practices. Balkan Express is a platform for reflection on the new roles of contemporary arts in a changing political and social environment. It builds new relations; encourages sharing and cooperation and contributes to the recognition of contemporary arts in the Balkans and wider.
As an informal network Balkan Express exists since 2002, in 2012 the decision was made to establish a formal body - Association Balkan Express, which is now based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Activities:
- retreats (small group reflection retreats without an agenda and necessity of producing results; aimed at different target groups)
- summer schools (with invited speakers from a variety of sectors, for managers, artists, critics to be more aware of the wider environment and trends that shape the society)
- caravan visits (small group of professionals visiting a city, meeting local artists, managers, learning about the local cultural landscape and making connections)
- professional meetings (meetings of professionals involved with or interested in BE or any of its activities)
- debates (gathering experts and practitioners from different fields of action - cultural and related socially engaged practices - around a specifically defined theme)
Activities in the years 2012/2013 are planned around the theme of SUSTAINABILITY.
We hope that our extensive contacts in the Balkan region can benefit other partners of ALF network to connect through Balkan Express activities with possible new partners from the Balkan region and thus enrich their collaboration activities.
The Balkan Express exists as an informal Network since 2002, which connected cultural operators and artists interested in collaboration in and within the Balkans. In 2012 we have established a formal body (NGO organization in Slovenia) and we weould like to connect more strongly also to the Mediterranean region, involving artists and cultural operators from different MED and other EU countries. We believe that becoming a part of the Alf network can help us expand our collaboration int he Meditteranean and that we can profit from the knowledge of other ALF partners.
