General Information

Dar al-Kalima NGO (DAK NGO) is a newly established organization in arts and culture in Lebanon, based in Sin-el-fil, but with a track record of activities since 2020. Its leading partner is Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem. DAK NGO was established in the continuity of Nabad.art Program -- a cross-cultural Palestinian-Lebanese intervention and outreach program of Dar al Kalima University launched in 2020 in response to the Beirut port explosion. The program's success led to establishment of DAK NGO to address the growing needs of the local and regional arts and culture communities and pursue partnership opportunities. Other partners include Meadows NGO, Beirut Jam Sessions, Plan Bey, Haven for Artists, SPRKL (sprkl.co), and Elyssar Press (California - US).

Mission and Objectives

DAK NGO’s Mission Is Driven By A Deep Conviction In The Arts And Culture’s Civic, Educational, Therapeutic, Economical, Political, And Personal Values Established in December 2022, DAK NGO is an organization devoted to raising public knowledge and awareness of the importance and impact of the arts and culture across Lebanon and in the region of Southwestern Asia and North Africa (SWANA) and to support marginalized communities and minorized individuals and groups through the arts and culture. DAK NGO’s mission is to help make the arts and culture accessible to ALL, an ongoing part of public discourse, and a crucial component of local/regional populations' lives. In addition, DAK NGO’s mission is to help empower artists, creative enterprises, and cultural practitioners to lead individual & community transformation and build inclusive societies. Goals: #1 Producing, promoting, and supporting the arts and culture. #2 Preserving cultural heritage. #3 Fostering cultural dialogue toward inclusive societies. #4 Providing training in the arts and culture.

Main Projects / Activities

Projects since 2020 have included relief and intervention initiatives, training and capacity-building workshops, art therapy workshops, co-organization of physical and virtual music events, digital platforms production and management for emerging and marginalized/underrepresented artists' empowerment, content production on local and regional arts and culture and digital campaigns, organization of art exhibitions, co-organization of street art interventions, arts and culture books production, ...

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Dar al-Kalima NGO's mission includes promoting the arts and culture of Lebanon and Southwestern Asia/North Africa and building bridges between different cultures and communities. DAK NGO has a solid commitment to intercultural dialogue and has collaborated with several partners on intercultural projects, and thus, it will continue working at this level. In addition, DAK NGO can contribute to the network of the Anna Lindh Foundation by volunteering time and expertise; helping promote intercultural dialogue and understanding and thus, contributing to the goals of the Anna Lindh Foundation in Lebanon and the region; spreading the word about the network's events and opportunities; and by supporting the network's fundraising efforts.

As an NGO focusing on arts and culture, DAK NGO is keenly interested in joining the Anna Lindh Foundation network. We share a common vision for promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding. At our core, we believe in the power of the arts to bring people together and foster empathy and mutual respect toward inclusive societies. Through our work, we have seen firsthand the transformative effect that cultural exchange can have on individuals and communities. We believe that by joining the Anna Lindh Foundation network, we will be able to connect with like-minded organizations and individuals who share our passion for promoting cultural diversity and understanding. Moreover, joining the Anna Lindh Foundation network will provide us access to valuable resources and expertise in intercultural dialogue. We are excited about the prospect of collaborating with other organizations within the network to develop innovative projects and initiatives that promote cultural exchange and understanding.
