The organisation has 2 full-time employees and numerous volunteers.
Mission and Objectives

The main objective of DLH is to safeguard the natural, historic and cultural environment of Malta and Gozo. DLH promotes cultural exchanges and projects between local and foreign institutions. The Association is a member of Europa Nostra, the European Network of National Heritage Organisations and ICOMOS (MALTA), and is affiliated to various international heritage organisations.

Main Projects / Activities

Since its foundation in 1965 DLH has campaigned for the protection of the Maltese environment. It has restored, and still maintains, some 20 monuments and sites. More recently the organisation has embarked on an afforestation project thereby entering the field of natural conservation. Further projects are currently in the pipeline. A series of monthly lectures on various themes is organized annually, as are cultural tours to various historical sites. The organisation’s publication ‘Vigilo’ is issued twice a year and communicates the activities carried out to members and the general public. The youth section of the organisation seeks to instil the love of heritage in tomorrow’s citizens. A Heritage Badge is awarded to Scouts who carry out various tasks related to DLH activities.
