General Information
EQI was founded in Egypt in 1981 as a private partnership engaged in the delivery of environmental consulting services. Starting with less than ten employees, EQI rapidly acquired the range of professional skills needed to design and implement comprehensive strategies for dealing with environmental challenges. EQI is a full-service company of over 150 employees, who together, address development needs across sectors. Operating primarily in Africa and the Middle East, EQI enjoys an international reputation for quality and innovation, both as a consultant and a direct investor in sustainable development initiatives.
Mission and Objectives

EQI's objective is to contribute to the growth and development of Africa and the Middle East by bringing about sustainable improvements in the living conditions of the peoples of the region. Our services are directed at promoting economic and social development that respects the region’s natural assets and preserves its rich cultural heritage. Through our in-depth understanding of local and regional conditions, and our technical expertise in the areas of environment, management, finance, and communication, we help decision makers identify and set priorities for development, formulate appropriate policies, and implement workable programs.

Main Projects / Activities

The Siwa sustainable development initiative. Inspired by the beauty and spirituality of this remote and relatively untouched corner of Egypt's Western Desert, EQI President Mounir Neamatalla, visiting Siwa for the first time in 1996, resolved to expand the company’s activities beyond advisory services to include direct investments in sustainable development. Based on consultations with the local community and other stakeholders, EQI has since designed and implemented a number of commercial ventures aimed at promoting economic development in Siwa that is in harmony with its sensitive environment and that revitalizes its unique cultural heritage. EQI's approach has been to draw on the old wisdom, traditional skills, and creativity of the local community, and complement them with modern know-how, to develop Siwa into a model of sustainable development that could serve as a source of inspiration for other communities around the world
