Mission and Objectives

Established in 2018 in Torino (Italy), Fondazione Santagata incorporates the competences of the Centro Studi Silvia Santagata-Ebla, founded in 2008 by Walter Santagata, professor in Cultural Economics at University of Torino. It is a research and training institute nourished by experts, professors, researchers working in the field of Culture Economics. Active in research, evaluation and knowledge transfer projects, it covers four main thematic areas with its respective goals:

A. Heritage. Developing and promoting heritage management models capable of generating opportunities for social and economic development (Heritage preservation and protection, Museums and cultural institutions, UNESCO programmes and Sustainable Development Goals);

B. Creativity. Deepening the study of the economics of culture and creativity in order to provide concrete support for organisations in the sector innovation (Cultural jobs and professions, Contemporary cultural production and digital innovation, Art and cultural productions, Digital innovation);

C. Tourism. Promoting research and training projects on the themes of tourism related to tangible and intangible cultural heritage, creative industries and productive districts (Eco-tourism, Creative tourism, Visitors Management, Evaluation of cultural policies and economic impact);

D. Sustainability. How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Fondazione Santagata for the Economics of Culture can contribute to the Italian ALF network as it follows:

- Bringing its expertise, skills, know-how, best practices applied to the cultural sector. Joining the Italian network would enable Fondazione Santagata to strengthen the cultural tissue of the country by disseminating and sharing its knowledge, expertise and best practices with other organisations.

- Adding value to the study of topics of common interest within the international scenario. Among these, cultural policy, international guidelines on sustainable development, strategic toolboxes for smarter and greener cities, etc as common issues at the core of each organisation’s priority.

- By providing the network of collaborators and partners and acting as an intermediary. Fondazione Santagata works closely with stakeholders, especially with institutions and communities to build relationships of trust and generate positive impacts not only for the territories of relevance but also for the societies themselves. Indeed, the foundation believes in and works for their socio-economic growth and sustainable development, providing the necessary tools to become and be resilient, innovative and inclusive.

- Strengthening the cultural tissue of the Italian network. Fondazione Santagata per l'Economia della Cultura is located in a strategic position on the European continent, representing an intermediate point between northern and southern Europe, thus gathering experiences and absorbing influences from the surrounding area in order to build new connections and strengthen existing dialogues both between organisations in the cultural sector and with communities. This would enable the Foundation to make its positioning, as well as the Italian network, more solid and diversified.

For the reasons mentioned above, the Foundation wishes to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network, so that it can actively contribute to generate positive impacts on and with communities and its territories built on dialogue and mutual understanding.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Fondazione Santagata has a strong desire to contribute to the intercultural dialogue in the Mediterranean, also due to the existing collaborations with which it shares objectives and mission. Its growing network includes the following countries, among which a strong presence of the Mediterranean once may be found: Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cambodia, France, Italy, Kosovo, North-Macedonia, Mauritius, Montenegro, Pakistan, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Switzerland, Syria, Turkey, Ukraine. As it can be appreciated, the MENA region plays a big role within the organisation’s activities, with which it would enhance its collaboration.

Another benefit of a badge for joining the ALF Network is attracting talent more easily. One of the things future leaders and young talent usually want is international experience within world active organisations, and that is what Fondazione Santagata can offer whilst receiving new fresher and innovative ideas from interns, young professionals, and/or collaborators coming from abroad.

Finally, belonging to the ALF Network would enable Fondazione to indirectly help its own network of collaborators to grow overseas, providing visibility to those talents it had supported so far and to prove once more that it is a trusted adviser and partner also when it comes to international activities.
