Total membership: 53 national youth organizations – 42 full members,11 with affiliate status. NYCI’s Annual Assembly is its highest decision-making body and takes place once a year, addressing financial, organizational and constitutional matters, elections are held. The Board of NYCI is the governing body of the Council, elected at the Annual Assembly. It ensures that the work programme and policies of the Council are implemented. Member organizations then decide the nature of participation in NYCI (including young people, leaders, practitioners, volunteers, managers, heads of organizations) Core funding: Dept of Education and Science, programmes within NYCI are funded by various departments and bodies such as the Childrens Office, Dept of Foreign Affairs and the Arts Council. We work on policy and advocacy at a national and international level. Arts, Health and development Education programme and NYCI houses the Child Protection Unit and Sáil na nÓg (the youth Parliament).
MISSION STATEMENT The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) is a membership-led umbrella organisation that represents and supports the interests of voluntary youth organisations and uses its collective experience to act on issues that impact on young people. STRATEGIC AIMS In advocating for the sector, NYCI is committed to playing a leadership role in actively raising the profile of youth work, enhancing the status of youth work and young people and increasing the resources available to youth work. NYCI embraces the genuine challenge of being representative of voluntary youth work organisations, as defined in the Youth Work Act 2001, and will ensure that its Constitution reflects this commitment. NYCI is also committed to ensuring that all its members have the opportunity to participate fully in the organisation and will promote and encourage interdependent relationships between member organizations and in how NYCI itself operates.
