General Information
The PFD Foundation has a Board consisting of 4 people and a full time assistant helped by the PfD partners and volunteers. It functions with the small budget of its own, and has very little overhead cost since it relies to a significant extent on volunteers and sponsors. The Partnership for Democracy Foundation is assisted by the US Consulate General in Krakow whose representatives sit on the Programming Council as well as by Radio Rzeszow. It also gets support from national and local governments, business representatives and individual Polish and Ukrainian student volunteers. The PfD Foundation organizes monthly tours for 20 Ukrainian journalists mainly in Poland, it runs quarterly debates, yearly seminars, organizes charity events and vacations for Polish children in Ukraine and Ukrainian children in Poland.
Mission and Objectives

The project seeks to bring Poles and Ukrainians together to discuss cross border issues and Polish democratic transition thereby supporting the development of democracy in Ukraine. Our Foundation realizes that with the 17 years of such experience Poland can help Ukraine showing aspects of Polish transformation during monthly workshops for Ukrainian media to see and later write about this with the scope of affecting people’s mentality and overcoming fear of change. The best way to do this is through journalists, that is why, during programs, we provide them with meetings with individuals and groups that can share exciting stories of human interest.

Main Projects / Activities

A series of 8 three day long study tours, one five day long study tour in Brussels, a summer camp for Ukrainian orphans, a summer camp fo Polish prphans in Ukraine, an annual 1 day long seminar, an annual Media Forest event, “European and Transatlantic Meetings” quarterly debates. Participants are recruited by a transparent and fair process of applications that are sent to the Foundation after the Ukrainian coordinator sends out information of the upcoming workshop to over 300 Ukrainian media. Participants are chosen on the merit base and according to geographic representation. The recruitment is done at the Board Meetings of the Programming Council that is composed of Poles, Ukrainians and Americans.
