General Information
PHOS Civic Association (Photography of society) has risen from the idea of four photographers (Michal Fulier, Andrej Lojan, Laco Maďar, Matúš Zajac) and art theorist (Mgr. Marián Paukov, PhD.) in order to point on the power of documentary photography in the modern world of contradictions and its inseparability from everyday life, the photography, which bears the message about the human and expresses its views on various social aspects of society. A graduate of the European cultural studies (Ivana Pástorová) helps to further develop this idea within this association. We are just at the beginning in the making projects but already we have 3 projects which are devoted to the various social issues. We have already done many presentations of our work in the form of photographic and intercultural dialogue. We want to use the form of dialogue also in the future because we think that this is the way how to develop and enhance the art of documentary photography. We cooperate with the non-govermental organization Depaul Slovensko which offers homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to fulfil their potential and move towards an independent and positive future because everyone has a place to call home and a stake in their community. Our sources of funding: sponsorship, grants
Mission and Objectives

We are interested in a documentary photography because we think that the classic form of the document is the most viable way and concept how to express our views on social issues of the society. We also think that the documentary photography is very needful in that way the photography is a form of art and human medium.Works of the documentary photographers of this association are met in the way of finding the decisive moment of capture of the human story aiming to jointly honour the Henri Cartier-Bresson and the other founders of the principle of decisive art, but each of these photographers does it in his own way. The purpose of artistic value of their photographs is initiation of the association of perception and feelings from which the beauty of expression is resulting. Black and white, but also color documentary photography essays of these four photographers are interpretations of the apparent reality of the objective world which is flowing in the inner depths of intense emotions, relationships that will determine their further interpretation in the perceiver. By this they create the possibility of an open cultural dialogue.
We are also working on the project HOPE - Activity of the Nightshelter of St. Vincent de Paul and the Shelter of St. Louise de Marillac will be recorded by the sensitive photographic document with artistic tendencies and interpenetrations in the long term. Our goal is to show the importance of the work of people who every day consistently help those in need not only by nursing and social assistance, but mainly by psychological support. We want to portray the whole range of homeless´ immediate feelings, their relationship between the inside and the outside world, as well as the documentation of the active support of the shelter´s staff, sponsors and supporters of the shelter.
