The Romanian Center for European Policies (CRPE) was established in 2009 by a group of experts bound by the shared objective of supporting Romania’s role in Europe.
The mission of CRPE is to promote Romania as an influential leader in the development of EU agendas and policies, including the Foreign Policy agenda. Our main objectives are: advancing the democratization process in Romania as well as in neighbour countries and contributing to the policy-formulating process at EU level, by providing expertise in various fields and by initiating or participating in public debates.
Our projects are focused on the following areas: democratization and civil society development; agricultural policies; economic governance and European funds; energy and environment; justice, internal affairs and anticorruption; national and European institutions; European neighbourhood policy.
Our current projects are: "PROFILING – PROtecting citizens’ rights and Fighting ILlicit profilING", "Advocacy for truly democratic European elections", "Enhancing the capacity of Visegrad states, Romania and Bulgaria to act as ODA donors in the Black Sea region", "Research and advocacy for public policies favorable to the development of farmers’ associations in Romania", "Contributions to the development partnership between Romania and Moldova", "The Civic Forum Romania- Ukraine", "Debating policies, enhancing expertise". For a view of our past projects, please visit http://www.crpe.ro/en/projects/.
We are looking forward to finding partners and developing projects, and also to exchanging views on the EU approach towards its Mediterannean neighbours. We have a wide experience in implementing projects of medium to large budgets, on either very technical or rather political issues and we already identified potential donors for future projects. We believe we can bring our contribution to the network through research and project implementation; morevover, we have a wide experience in bringing issues to public attention thanks to the good relations that we have developed with the media and also a relevant experience in advocating for changes in public policies, thanks to the good relations that we developed with public institutions.
As part of our objective to contribute to the democratization process in Romania and neighbour countries, as well as to bring relevant contributions to the Foreign policy formulation process within the EU, we have conducted projects in countries like Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria, on various issues, ranging from civil society development, energy cooperation, inter-institutional cooperation on Anti-corruption, integrity, equal treatment and non-discrimination, regional development, border control, data protection, European integration, and others. However, we would like to extend our area of activity towards the Mediterranean countries. We believe that Romania's experience of transition from authoritarianism to democracy can offer some useful examples of both success and failures for the countries that have been part of the Arab Spring. Moreover, we want to bring a contribution to the policy-formulation process at EU level regarding the Mediterranean neighbours of Europe (Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, European Development Assistance, etc.).
