Abstract

This article describes the rise of far right-wing governments in Italy. Specifically looking at the rice of Girorgia Meloni and her policies. Looking at the policies of far right-wing governments in the early 2000s under the government of Silvio Berlusconi. The article then looks at the effects that the policies of these governments had in the develop of even further right political party development across Italy in the 2000’s leading to the government of Conte. This article then looks at the rise of the Brothers of Italy's political party and its rise to power. After discussing the rise of the brothers of Italy the article then details the current policies of the Meloni government as well as its aims and objectives. The main issue that the article highlights is Italy’s true interest as the article calls it which is a stronger Europe which despite being a far-right political party does seem to be the intent of her and her government. The article then goes into the current challenges faced by the Meloni government which include how to handle migrants and immigration to the country in general as well as the slowing pace of the Italian economy. Given the current content of the migration context, the idea of a stronger Europe coming from Meloni shows the need for the EU to be more willing to compromise with her and work with her as is stated within the article. Furthermore demonstrates the need to develop the Italian economy despite the ageing population.
