General Information

The Heinrich-Boell-Foundation is a non-profit organisation affiliated with the German political party “Alliance 90/The Greens” (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen). It is funded mainly by the German Ministry of Development and Economic Co-operation (BMZ). With its central office in Berlin, the foundation is organized on a regional, federal basis; its legal status and staff is independent of the political party. Located in the city of Kiel, the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein, the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation Schleswig-Holstein organizes manifold events in further education such as symposia, lecture series and seminars. Activities in the field of culture and artistic exchange as a contribution to intercultural dialogue are among the foundation’s central tasks.

Mission and Objectives

The Foundation’s primary objective is to support civic education and promote democratic participation, socio-political activism and cross-cultural understanding. On an international level, the foundation advocates respect between people of different origins, cultural and/or gender identities, and political viewpoints.

Main Projects / Activities

In 2008 the Project Office “radius of art” within the Heinrich- Boell-Foundation organised the “Culture Weeks Middle East”, a month-long program of events in the realms of literature, theatre and music, as well as colloquia, lectures and debates. Many local institutions in the fields of culture, religion and politics participated in the organising process, numerous guests from the region were invited to Kiel. As a further complement of the project “radius of art” the office organised the residency program “research-based art // art-based research” which also took place in 2008 in cooperation with international partners from six euromed countries. Planned activities for 2009 are various culture projects with a focus on Palestine and a follow-up project for the residency program.

The Herbert-Hoover-School is a secondary school located in the Berlin district of „Mitte“.Schools commit to a general pedagogical, but also professional engagement. At the same time the School team have to look responsibly into the social environment of our students as this reflects their composition. Both societal and religious divergences, as well as the different ethnical backgrounds represented in the school should be seen as a cultural enrichment. YCBS is our cooperation partner and an international radio for Youth and by Youth: Here you can find radio programs and radio projects that are on the pulse of the current affairs! YCBS is a radio platform for young people from different countries sharing different interests and passions. Apart from professional radio features you can listen to numerous segments and reports that were created by young people for young people. Here, you can discover fascinating stories and accounts and set out on travels through various countries. Peculiarities related to living in such a city like Mostar, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, are reflected in some short stories told by its inhabitants. The daily life in divided cities along the German-Polish or German-French borders, gaining knowledge by Czech and German pupils about each other in the course of the environmental project about the river Elbe were in the center of our interest. Enthusiasm for sport disciplines, music, new friendships or environment and curiosity about the other cultures is a factor connecting young people all over the Europe. Their passion and engagement have strongly influenced and defined their radio articles and features as well as their reports and accounts. Our radio programs stem from different countries therefore you can listen to them in numerous languages, however, mainly in German and English. The radio features reporting on the Pomaks of Bulgaria as well as on the Bulgarian Jews allow you to gain an insight into the history and culture in South-East Europe.

- My neighbour and me. The story about divided cities. My neighbour and me is a radio project in which more than 60 youngsters from Poland, Germany and France took part. Despite the young people's origin from various culture living next to one another, it is not easy to get into conversation with one another. Partners: Goethe Institut Nancy, institute francaise,German UNESCO Comission, Centre européen Robert Schuman (CERS) and others. -Mostar is believed to be earlier known as a city of happiness, amusement and sport, Franjo Dzidcic, a trainer of juniors of Zrinjski team had told me. However, happiness and amusement are nowadays something extraordinary for the inhabitants. Instead , they experience social problems and an ethnic segregation which are named by many residents as a reason for the economic slowdown in Bosnia. Boris, Alisa, Goran and Ante relate about the daily life in Mostar! Partners: SWR2-Public Radio Station, Renovabis Foundation, Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg and radio X in Mostar. -Radio wproject in the course of the Franco-german Competition: Vivre ensemble avec nos différences. Living together with our differences.Joel, Sami, Norbert, Jules S., Loïse, Fanny, Marjana und Linda are pupils in the 10th grade and learn at the Lycée Honoré Damier in Marseille which is one of the most multicultural city in France. The students produced a radio show, recording opinions of people from different cultures. They also won a prize for the best radio production in the course of the Franco-German Radio Competition. Project partners: institute francaise Berlin, Goethe Institut Toulouse, Bordeaux, Paris. -Stubborn Minority are the Pomaks in Bulgaria Broadcast on rbb, mdr The Pomaks are Muslim minority in Bulgaria that mainly inhabits Rhodop Mountains. The community numbering 300 000 people is hardly known in the heart of Europe although their way of life as Europeans. The Pomaks travel throughout Europe carrying Christian names while using Muslim ones at home. They speak Bulgarian but also visit the Mosque and celebrate the Christian holidays. No matter for them. They have lived peacefully with the Turks, Bulgarians and Roma for more than 1400 years! The German Rectors' Conference/Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK) is the voluntary association of universities and other higher education institutions in Germany. The HRK currently has 262 member institu¬tions. They are almost all state (public) or state-recognised higher edu¬cation institutions. Additionally, there are a few members of HRK which are private universities or FH universities of applied sciences directly maintained by departments of the states. A foundation – Stiftung zur Förderung der Hochschulrektorenkon¬ferenz – has been the funding organisation and body corporate respon¬sible for the HRK since 1965. The President, five Vice-Presidents and the Secretary-General of the HRK form the Executive of the founda¬tion. The budget is essentially funded through grants from the states and from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as well as from membership fees paid by non-state-maintained higher education institutions.
Mission and Objectives

In the HRK member institutions cooperate on all questions relating to the fulfilment of their responsibilities in research, teaching and studies, continuing training, technology and knowledge transfers, international cooperation and academic self-government. The opinion- and decision-making processes within the HRK lead to recommendations and state¬ments. In publishing these, the HRK ensures that the voices of the higher education institutions is heard in public discussions.

The Ibn Rushd Fund for Freedom of Thought was founded on December 10th, 1998, in commemoration of the 800th anniversary of Ibn Rushd's (Averroes’) death, and on the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Universal Human Rights. It is an independent organization registered in Germany. Its founding members are mainly of Arab origin who live in Germany. Meanwhile, the fund’s members and sponsors are spread all over Europe, the Arab countries and North America. The sphere of activity, however, is the Arab world. All the fund’s activities are achieved on honorary basis. All expenses of the fund including the annual awards are financed exclusively by donations and fees, which has preserved is independence. Mission and Objectives

The fund’s goal consists in fostering freedom of thought, democracy and the courage to stand up for one’s beliefs in the Arab world. The Ibn Rushd Fund wants Arab culture to strive for rationalism and tolerance. Supporting the ideas of freedom of thought and democracy is an important starting point to catch up with the process of world civilization. To this end, the fund collects money to honour people who have rendered outstanding services to these goals. In this way, endeavours for freedom and democracy in the Arab World will be supported. The fund also launches campaigns in favour of persons who because of their political or social activities and beliefs come into conflict with their governments.

IDEM is an independent non-profit research and policy organisation. The Association does not act in its own interests. It does not pursue economic purposes. We provide strategy advice and solutions, know-how transfer, technical assistance and cultural exchange activities, for example, in educational exchange and the development of curricula. IDEM initiates, supports and carries out projects and institutions that are involved with the role of media in democratisation processes and the development of information and communication technologies in Europe and worldwide. IDEM's experienced and multidisciplinary team is committed to provide policy makers, implementing organisations and scholars with relevant strategic analysis and practical solutions.IDEM seeks, with a network of local partners, local partners, editors and journalists, students of journalism and lawyers working in the industry, the integration of target countries into the international and specifically European structures, servicing varying needs of the countries. Areas like media and security, democracy or new technologies find special attention.

Most recent: Empowering People through Citizens' Journalism - Establishing a community radio in Albania. Additionally, this 24-month project will offer representatives of NGOs free participation in six courses in journalism and public communication.

iMass Innovation works in partnership with rural villages in Ghana to create and establish sustainable solutions for community development. Our local staff members begin working in a community by asking a lot of questions, finding out what problems are seen by members of the community, especially the Human Right Defenders, Women,and children. We then implement a variety of different projects that addresses the grassroots causes of these problems one community at a time. Through our effective volunteer service programs, we connect volunteers from around the world with these communities along with our staff as we work together in areas as Female Human Right, ICT, Food and Agriculture, Education, Water and Sanitation, Healthcare and Economic Development. We come up with a plan, decide on ways to evaluate and measure success, and get to work. Our Initiatives
Mission and Objectives

Immediate objective is to establish a community of media professionals equipped with the skills and the knowledge to report on and investigate threats on media freedom and the Internet, digital identity and safety, and how cyber policy impacts the average user, in an effort to raise public awareness of rising threats to free speech.

Main Projects / Activities

 Develop a curriculum for journalists by aggregating local and international materials; localizing and translating content in English and French for Ghanaian journalists. (Duration: 2 months)
 Hold a 3-day training to develop skills and increase capacity of at least 15 local journalists in using data, information and research in investigative reports about Internet and media freedom. (Duration: 3 days)
 Develop 3 content packages about Internet media freedom, to be published on IMass Innovation and other local media organizations. Packages would include a combination of text (articles/features), visualizations and video or multimedia content. (Duration: 9 months)
 Research, write and publish 1 in-depth research report on Internet media freedom. (Duration: 6 months)
 Monthly meetings with media professionals (including the core group of those trained throughout the project) to discuss new developments, emerging trends, research findings and exchange knowledge on issues pertaining to freedom of expression, and media independence. (Duration: 9 months)

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

To addresses the target group in Ghana through training and support for investigative reports in order to better establish an environment for free and democratic media to function in Ghana. We envision this project contributing to an increase in professionalism in order for the media sector to include more diverse views and interests, including traditional marginalized groups, such as women, youth and refugees. Our goal is to work towards an environment of self-regulation of the media community so that laws that limit freedoms and expressions are not needed.

IMPACT − Civil Society Research and Development e.V., founded in Berlin in 2013, is a non-profit civil society organization with additional offices in Iraq, Turkey and Syria. Civil society-support is the core of IMPACT’s mission. IMPACT is a catalyst for cooperation. It promotesthe exchange of experiences and ideas among local civil society actors and their international peers. It offers support to civil society actors and activists using a community-based and holistic approach that includes assessment, research, training, long-term coaching and financial support. To that end, IMPACT has developed and sustains a network of civil society actors who advocate jointly for democracy, human rights and diversity. IMPACT works in Germany and the Middle East with a special presence in Syria and neighboring countries. IMPACT’s main point of strength lies in its well-trained, professional and active team, comprised of members from diverse backgrounds. The team is spread across Europe, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraqand all team members actively participate in political and social movements at a local and national level. Although widely-dispersed and diverse, the team is united by belief in a common goal of strong civil society and a shared vision.

In this continuous study, we provide concrete information about Syrian civil society actors to source individuals and agencies who work in the Syrian context. also mapping on the syrian organizations in germany 
- NETWORKING:
Through our wide database, we directly connect international actors with relevant actors on the ground to achieve the best impact and prevent waste of time and resources.
- MONITORING & EVALUATION:
We provide real time M&E services, field researches and capacity assessments, in order to enhance the transparency and help troubleshooting the work of Syrian & international actors.
- CAPACITY BUILDING:
We use our accumulative experience and reachable resources to empower the newly growing organizations and support them through the early stages of their work.

Impact is a networking and research center, we have good access to all syrian organizations in Germany and working on activating the syrian community here, this needs cooperation with the active organizations in germany

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Impact was originally  created in the IndignAction conference by ALF in Luxembourg and then was suppose to get funded and supported as a network of civil actors to support the syrian people in the ALF Forum in Marsielle 2013, this didn't happen because of skeptisism by some members
however we're still part of discussions and close to some members of the ALF family and would like to continue networking withing Germany and abroad Impact
