- Democracy and community development
Citizens & Politics started in September 2017. The aim of the initiative, called at the time Coffee & Politics, was to be more involved and knowledgeable about politics without having to necessarily join a political party. It started as small reunions between friends who were interested in reappropriating their history and culture, challenging the mainstream political narrative, and creating a community where one can speak freely and learn from the other. The initiative soon moved from meeting in small coffee shops in Beirut to bigger ones, and then to other regions in Lebanon, and soon to diaspora groups abroad.
Citizens & Politics is an NGO registered in France (RNA: W751262993). It aims to offer varied and quality debates, discussions and trainings that allow Lebanese citizens to have the means and tools to transform their society under the values of humanism, equality, secularism and progress. Citizens & Politics aims at serving all citizens, whatever their level of commitment in the public sphere is: students, academics, young activists or elected officials.
You can check our previous projects on our Facebook page and website. We have two upcoming projects in Lebanon, one from June until September with talks in coffee shops around history, economy, local politics, environment and law in three different regions in Lebanon. In the fall, we have another project around thematic history themes (8 topics with a panel of speakers for each).
I can contribute with my experience in civic education, debates and political dialogue. I also have a good network in Lebanon.
I want to join the ALF network in order to be connected with like-minded individuals who have the same values as me, and would like Citizens & Politics to be part of a bigger network in order to expand regionally.
