United Societies of Balkans represent an educational platform specifically tailored to professionals working directly with unaccompanied minors. This platform aims to provide these professionals, including cultural mediators and social workers, with comprehensive training and resources to enhance their ability to support and guide unaccompanied minors toward successful integration.

Visit the e-learning platform here: https://mooc.4oneanother.org/

In addition, in this link https://online.fliphtml5.com/tktox/pbth/, you can see a detailed research phase aimed at assessing the specific needs and challenges faced by unaccompanied or separated children, as well as the professionals working closely with them. This research methodology includes conducting in-depth interviews with both professionals and the unaccompanied or separated children themselves

These actions were carried out in the framework of the 4oneAnother project, which is funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ program in the field of vocational education and training.

General Information

Leirion is an alternative library - art place. It was founded in 2017 as a private for-profit enterprise. Leirion collaborates with local bookstores and publishers on a monthly basis to host book presentations, workshops etc. Throughout the year, it employes 10-20 professionals to carry out regular educational, cultural and artistic activities for youth and adults. Among others, it hosts cultural and artistic events such as musical nights, greek folklore storytelling, traditional dancing training and more. All programs are carried out by professionals who have the freedom to organize the structure of the projects’ vision, implementing their own educational methods. The decisions are made jointly with the direction and its partners. A distinguishing element of Leirion is the confidence it shows to young people, especially university students, who are hired with equal rights as professionals, enjoying the freedom to implement their fresh ideas.

Mission and Objectives

Leirion was founded with a vision to promote books, art, and innovative educational methods. Our goal is for all members of society, irrespective of economic status, to have the opportunity to participate in educational, cultural and artistic activities. Our philosophy is that every individual should have access to quality educational programs as well as discover the book through alternative paths. Our home is sensitive to social matters such as unaccompanied refugee minors, abused women, abandoned children in maternity hospitals.

Main Projects / Activities

In collaboration with local bookstores, Leirion organizes book presentations and meetings with authors and publishers as well as storytelling nights for both children and adults. Among others, the artistic activities include regular pottery, painting, radio podcast, and theatre workshops, various exhibitions, musical events, and creative poetry writing. For our little ones, the regular educational activities include Robotics, Ancient Greek, and Rhetoric workshops, Model United Nations (MUN) club, study tutoring, math labs, philosophy sessions (Socrates' method for children 4 to 8 years old). Our adult programs include Oratory clubs, Gordon’s Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T), and parenting consulting.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Leirion promotes youth empowerment and offers a plethora of educational and cultural activities that could interest the members of the ALF while it is open for partnerships with like-minded private and non-profit organizations. Hence, it aspires to be a valuable member which will strengthen the Greek Network and aim for regular and quality cooperation within it.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

The Alternative Library - Art Place Leirion is organizing a new educational activity, the 1st International Model United Nations Conference Leirion that will take place in Athens, Greece on October 29-31, 2021. For the first time in Greece, the conference aims to bridge the school and university MUN communities, under the general theme of Individual Freedoms in the Contemporary Era. The goal of this project is the annual organization of an international conference with original topics, quality research, substantial debate, which will produce results that can constitute applicable guidelines or solutions to social, political and economic issues. We want to join the ALF Network to attract participation from the Euro-Mediterranean area not only for this project but also for upcoming ones. For example, for the academic year 2021-2022, the promotion of a charitable initiative is programmed. It refers to a Poetry competition for elementary students, whose poems will be checked by an Academic Committee of experts and will be published in order to fundraise for educational programs for unaccompanied refugee minors and neglected children in maternity hospitals.

General Information
Our organization is formed by 4 founding members and employs 15 people (actors, musicians, educators, animators) as staff. As concrete projects, we realize educational programs in greek schools, theatrical plays in schools and theaters and adult seminars on the subject of art education, in partnership with various institutions. As main partners since our establishment, we could cite TEDxAUEB, Gnosis Network for Education and Psichogios Publications s.a.
Mission and Objectives

Logou Paignion consists of musicians, actors and actresses, educators and animators, with the aim of realizing educational programs in schools.
The educational programs are designed by Panayiotis Tsirides, who has years of experience in the fields of music education and children’s literature.
The backbone of all programs lies in interacting with arts through games and their main characteristic is the active participation of the students, who are divided in groups. Music, dancing, theater, literature and visual arts serve as tools in order to strongly motivate and help express every single child.
All the above contribute to the development of linguistic capacity, by which we don’t just mean the written or spoken word, but the whole mental and cultural package that society is supposed to provide to its youth, so that they are then able to become cultivated, creative citizens.

Main Projects / Activities

From Brahms to drums
For K1-K2 students
This music-pedagogical program resembles an interactive piano recital and addresses young children. Its purpose is for children to play and get the pleasure of listening to stories and to music, as well as improvising with percussion musical instruments. Through this procedure, children achieve to develop their linguistic skills, imagination and theatrical expression, as well as their ability to co-operate creatively with each other.
Peter and the wolf, trapped by a piano
For K1-K4 students
This is a different kind of fairy tale, which is based on the musical themes of Sergei Prokofiev's creation. It is an interactive theatrical play that merges educational and theatrical ingredients, aiming at introducing children to the world of music and at raising their awareness on environmental issues and on their own relationship with nature.
The legends of fire
For K3-K5 students
This program is about three myths that explain the way that man discovered fire. From Promytheus of greek mythology, to the brave swallow of Siberia and the kindhearted peacock of Indonesia, children get the chance to creatively listen to music and play drama games. In the end, the three legends get compared and we all discuss together their similarities and differences, as well as the points that impressed each one.
Goblins and Santa Claus
For K2-K5 students (Christmas-special educational program)
This fairy tale, which is based on the greek and german traditions of goblins and elves, gets literally and musically narrated through Ygor Mussorgsky's musical creation, “Pictures at an Exhibition”. At first, children match the musical themes with the fairy tale's structure and then they dramatize the story by following the musical narration. This program's purpose is for children to get the pleasure of listening to stories, of actively listening to music and of playing drama games. By the end of the program, each kid gets to create and keep his/her own special, handcrafted Christmas ornament.
Nikolaos Gyzis – Ludwig van Beethoven: An artistic encounter, motive for playing and creating
For K5-K7 students
Painting encounters music. Beethoven's piano sonatas encounter Gyzis' paintings. Students participate in this encounter by playing games divided into groups, and then they become themselves visual and musical creators, inspired by the musical and visual work of these two artists.
The literary and visual world of Odysseas Elytis
For K6-K9 students
In the beginning of this program students get in touch with Elytis' visual world, accompanied by the music of Manos Hadjidakis. Then, they form groups and play and improvise, discovering the power of lyrics in “Axion Esti” and other poetic collections of him. Instead of providing encyclopedic knowledge about Elytis' poetry, this program invites children to a game which leads them closer to literature and the joy of creation.
Alexandros Papadiamantis - “Christ at the Castle”: The miracle of being human
For K7-K10 students (This program is adjusted as appropriate, in accordance with students' age)
One of Papadiamantis' most famous narratives comes to life through a narration made by actors and becomes the motive for characters' analysis and drama games. Through this program, students not only get the pleasure of playing and of creating, but also get to know an important literary piece -which, on top of everything, is written in Papadiamantis' special language.
The characters and thoughts of Nikos Kazantzakis' literature
For K8 - K10 students
The main purpose of this program is for students to make contact with three of the most important novels of Nikos Kazantzakis: “Captain Michalis”, “Zorba the Greek” and “Report to Greco”. Through games and interactive activities, students get to know the main character of each novel and familiarize with the author's thoughts, resulting in the development of their linguistic and critical thinking skills.
