Creativity Toolbox

Cromo Foundation, from the ALF Hungarian Network has created a very useful toolbox as they learned from the Covid pandemic how to operate as active community members during a crisis in restricted times. It is open to be downloaded in 5 languages and it servs to share good practices.

This is how they planned the project:

The COVID situation brought unexpected and new challenges for local communities in almost every field of their lives. We chose local cultural activities as subject of our project: because of lockdown and keeping distance policy cultural activities needed to be rethought. Our project focuses on these changes and all the novelties it brought in local communities, which will definitely shape the cultural life after the pandemic as well.

We aim to build resilient communities,by building the capacity of local residents to become active culture-shaping stakeholders and community organizers locally. During the project we gather and share the learnings from COVID in order to connect social groups, encourage micro-community contact programs, actively involve residents, provide community spaces.

We want to equip local community organisers and stakeholders with the knowledge and toolkit to organise local communities’ events, activities in challenging times: that will have an effect on the mental health of the community, also will contribute to the community cohesion. Our project focuses on community organisers from the field of culture, but knowledge can be used in other fields as well.

As a public benefit organization, it wishes to foster social and economic cohesion. Our operations include the support of disadvantaged people in the region, primarily improving the conditions of ethnicities, youth, elderly people, women and disabled people; examining the current state of the labour market and workplace health protection, and achieve sustainable development in harmony with the EU policies. We currently have 10 full-time employees and about a dozen volunteers. Our annual budget was around €240.000 last year. Our organization puts emphasis on international cooperation. Last year we sent and hosted over 100 young people on our trainings, and formed a professional cooperation with over 60 organizations from more than 20 countries.

Mission and Objectives

We are especially committed to increase our target group’s (youth aged 14 to 35) interest and awareness about public life, strengthen their active participation in democratic life, improve their sense of initiative and entrepreneurship and transversal skills and key competencies that will contribute to the organization and maintenance of communities.
Through our main activities – training/education, research, training material development, organization of knowledge-sharing events – we would like to contribute to measures and initiatives which aim to foster the integration of disadvantaged groups, support intercultural learning, the multiplication of media literacy with special focus on youth.

Main Projects / Activities

Eurotender Association was founded in 2005, with the aim of contributing to the success of the structural policy of the European Union in the South Great Plains region of Hungary.
Due to our implemented projects, we have excellent working relations with the University of Szeged, elementary and secondary schools in the city of Szeged, Hungary.
During more than a decade of our operation we have been providing opportunities for young people to acquire working experience (within the former M.AN.O. Leonardo programme and different mentoring programmes). Also, we have organized an international conference in Szeged, Hungary about European citizenship for young people (2010 - From the Europe of Regions to Lisbon Treaty– with the support of the Europe for Citizens program), and we have continuously provided counselling for high school and university students regarding EU grants (this activity greatly contributed to the growth of our volunteer base).
Our members and volunteers are committed to intergenerational dialogue, which resulted in our organization’s participation in several projects supporting the elderly. Several of our members also gave lectures at the Academy for the Elderly program in Szeged.
In 2013, we organized a 10-stage event promoting peaceful coexistence in the Serbian-Hungarian cross-border region (2013 - Borderland Area COoking Network – HUSRB-IPA programme), and published a bilingual cookbook as well.
From 2015, we have implemented a series of projects with the financial support of the ERASMUS+ program of the European Union: in total, around 180 young people from 20 European countries took part in these project activities.
Our first KA2 project as lead applicant, titled Non-formal education and e-learning for inclusion – NEELI was launched in 2016 and ended in August 2018. This project aimed to develop and test new integration models for youth with different cultural background - this included data collection, analysis, the development of training materials and testing in the participating countries: Hungary, United States of America, Italy, Greece, Spain and Romania.
Within the framework of our second KA2 project, titled Entrepreneurship Skills for Youth / Youth for Social Entrepreneurship (ESY/YSE) our aim was to collect, exchange and share good practices and policy initiatives regarding youth entrepreneurship in the participating countries (Cyprus, Hungary, Mexico, Romania, Slovakia).
Besides the above described activities, our Association has conducted several national and international researches in the past years, the largest of which was the one examining foreign employment and migration strategies of Hungarian youth, which we conducted in 2015 with the support of Pallas Athéné Geopolitical Foundation.
In October, 2016, we organized an event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 titled “Revolution in words – Slam poetry challenge in view of 1956”, where over 500 young people participated. The event was supported by the Public Endowment for the Research on Central and Eastern European History and Society.
Through these activities, Eurotender Association endeavors to foster the economic and social development of the region and participate in its cultural life.

We have voluntary project teams for concrete projects but no one is employed by the organization at the present time. Last year the budgetary resources was € 6000 and we are working hard to increase it year by year. The sources of funding are cultural tenders, support from the municipality of Devavanya, sponsorship from companies and individual founders, incomings from selling tickets. Modalities of action are concrete projects like cultural events, information campaigns, conference, seminars and workshops. Our main regional partner is the municipality of the city of Devavanya, the main consultative partners are Harmonium Association (tenders and project management), Kvintus Ltd. (event organizing, marketing and communication) and Mastervisione Ltd. (audiovisual projects).
Mission and Objectives

Our project aims at the promotion of intercultural tolerance, and wishes to strengthen mutual understanding and respect for each others cultures by celebrating the cultural diversity of the world. We believe that being exposed to the culture of the other can indeed contribute to the elimination of preconceived ideas, racism and intercultural intolerance.
In addition, we would like the people to pay attention on the importance of sustainability and environmental protection and other burning issues of the planet.
The main objective is that the people who come into contact with our projects, bring more tolerance, humanism and environmental consciousness into his/her everyday life.

Main Projects / Activities

The main project is the Drum Festival – International World Music Gathering. In 2009. there is the 8th festival and it is evolving year by year. This year we plan a 3 day long Festival which hosts percussion-based world music concerts and dance performances, dj and visual performances, dozens of workshops (music, dance, fine arts, Hungarian traditions etc.), exhibitions, civilian village concentrating on burning issues related to globalization, human rights, climate change, sustainability and the protection of the environment. All of these are live video streamed to the internet and fully documented (photo, video and audio).
We have additional activities during the year, like cultural radio shows for non-profit radios, webportal developing to publish the multimedia content recorded at the Festival and side-projects and create an audiovisual database of the artists and themes related to the Festival.

Documentaries about social issues as educational tools

Image
Magic Fame project

In the framework of the Magic Frame project, Dutch, Lithuanian, and Bulgarian partners are contemplating how to make a documentary film. Through film as a medium they hopt to explore pressing social issues. They also hope to ingrain film part of the education system and find ways how to introduce film method to teachers and students.

This semester, documentary film screenings are running in these 4 countries in parallel. In Hungary we are working on the theme of becoming adults with the film Dívák / Divas  at the Kürt Alapítványi Gimnázium School in collaboration with the Cromo Alapítvány - Cromo Foundation and Palantír Film Alapítvány / DocuArt mozi. The first lesson was an experience! In the improvisation lesson with students aged 14-18 together we created living sculptures and expressed with great irony what they think about growing up and what makes someone an adult.

The project is co-founded by the European Union.
