How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

HellasEurope has developed, by means of its associates, a strong network of entities, mainly no profit, which address ALF values and mission. The association can enlarge the network of this Foundation, can bring expertise and experience on the areas of interest of ALF and support the development of reflection and action on these topics.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

General Information
The "Hellenic Action for Human Rights" (H.A.HU.R.) is a newly established action-oriented NGO in the field of human rights. Up to the present, it does not have any employees and is mainly supported by volunteers. Its present budgetary resources derive exclusively from the members' enrollment fee (about 2.000 Euros in the first two months of existence). Every legal source of funding is welcome, as long as it does not geopardize thw NGO's independence. Although "fresh", HAHUR has already rich pro bono activity, especially in the domain of legal aid for immigrants and asylum seekers, as well as in educational action for minority groups. Most members are lawyers, doctors, psycho-social workers and consultants. Most work is undertaken by the NGO's head, Ms. Electra-Leda Koutra, who is a lawyer and an activist on such matters for a long time. Two commitees (one on education and another on environmental issues) have been formed, under her coordination.
Mission and Objectives

Mainly: The protection of human rights and civilians' freedom, in Greece. The uprising of public opinion, aiming to create an ambiance of respect to human rights. The support of civilians in exercising their rights. The study, information, education and sensibilization on legal, social, cultural matters, as well as on matters of health, environment and quality of life. Relative publicity. The contribution in the extinction of discrimination. The struggle against exploitation, marginalization, degrading and undermining the quality of life and social exclusion. The intervention, in or out of court, in cases of violation or undermining of human rights and freedom. The study of civilians' problems, in atomic and collective level, leading to proposals for their resolvement. The use of art and culture as a bridge between ethnicities and as a means to fight discrimination and racist mentalities.

Main Projects / Activities

Legal activity has already (pro bono) taken place(law suits, appeals, reports to authorities etc.) concerning:unaccompanied minor and adult asylum seekers, when their rights were violated, police violence towards vulnerable social groups,"2nd generation" children of immigrants, facing deportation when they turn 18, trafficking and human organs and tissues trade victims, and others. Moreover, extensive contacts with the migrant and refugee populations have taken place, and we tend to function "horizontally" with their local communities (they enroll as our honorary members).Lessons on greek language for foreigners have started INSIDE the migrant communities, by well-qualified staff (our "education commitee" of volunteers, supervised by HAHUR's board of directors), and also acting groups consisting of migrants and visits to theaters by migrant NGOs as wall as other relative activities are being organized.
