General Information

"LAUKKU" is founded by an international group of artists and researchers (Latvia, France, Finland). There are no emplyed staff, the organization is operating on project and voluntary basis. As this is only the first year of operation of "LAUKKU" it is not easy to predict the yearly budget, we suppose that funds raised during first couple year could up around 30 000 EUR. The main funding sources are planned to be the State Culture Capital Foundation, regional municipalities, Nordic Baltic funds, EU funds for culture. Modalities of actions include various projects, exchanges and seminars. Main partners are arts media, regional municipalities and network of artists and theoreticians believing in the mission of "LAUKKU".

Mission and Objectives

LAUKKU is and international collective founded by Max Ryynänen (Finland), Annemari Autere (France), Inta Balode, Valts Miķelsons and Linda Krūmiņa (Latvia) in 2017 as a continuation of yearly laboratories “New Dance in a New Place” since 2013. Our aim is to promote contemporary art in rural and peripheral areas, build artistic alternatives through challenging urban lifestyles in big cities and centers. “Laukku” means “travel bag” in Finnish and it relates to “lauku” meaning “rural” in Latvia.

Main Projects / Activities

Main activities of "LAUKKU" that have started before the foundation of the organization (under the umbrella of Choreographers Association) are: - since 2011 www.journal.dance.lv - since 2013 travelling education project/festival "New Dance in a New Place" - since 2012 workshops for young arts writers and artistic exchanges - since 2012 involvement in the Baltic Nordic dance writers network "The Writing Movement"

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Inta Balode (representing Choreographers Association and Olga Zitluhina Dance Company) has been involved in the national network since its very first days in 2005. Before and also in the future the contribution to the network would be proposals of different arts, particularly contemporary dance and arts, activities. Both as events to watch and even more as the ones to participate, where art becomes a tool for profound dialogue among various people and groups of people.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

For Inta Balode personally it is just a continuation of being part of the network. For "LAUKKU" joining network seems very logical taking into consideration the mission of the organization which is oriented towards peripheral, also different, not always understood and accepted areas, groups and people. Also as "LAUKKU" is already international and has members living both on North of the Medditaranean Sea and on West, North and East coasts of the Baltic Sea, it seems natural to expand collaborations also with the other coasts of the Medditaranean.

General Information
-Structure:head of organisation is its founder, but due to free accesibility to the project, anyone can participate in the project; -Budgetary resources:profitless; -Sources of funding:personal (it is planned to attract national & EU funds for non-music events` organisation) -Modalities of action:see "Main Projects/Activities" -Main partners:all who have wish to participate in struggle for brotherhoodly peace between Jews and Arabs and have a sense about rock/metal music too. One of most important partners - Israeli-Palestinian organisation MePeace (www.mepeace.org)
Mission and Objectives

Organisation`s mission is simple - peaceful life for our kids.
Many have both Jewish and Arab blood, but vast majority supposes that it can`t be possible...that Jews and Arabs are totally different strangers with only one connection - eternal hate.Rare knows the truth - we are brothers - semites. And we want to live in peace, whatever it takes.
Thankfully, there are now many organisations, devoted to this issue, but obviously no one has succeeded, because problem still isn`t solved...
We,already participated in this project, are Semitic brothers misunderstood and neglected in one more issue - we are rock/metal music performers and fans.We have to pay innocently twice - being named as satanists (for listening to such music), terrorists and enemies. But why many of Arab and Jewish rock music fans became Al-Shalom participants is because we know that nothing is so uniting and brotherhood establishing than music we love. You may call fans of such music as stereotyped as you wish, but it would be impossible to deny that fans of rock/metal music are enormously friendly towards each other.
So, we use proved tool for brotherhood in salvation of our national and cultural stereotypes - and this is our mission & objective too.

Main Projects / Activities

Now main activity is promotion of project itself. It includes mutual, virtual advertising, events organisation, social networking etc.
Also it is planned to organise Jewish - Arab events doesn`t devoted to music - such as Jewish-Arab food festival, congress of Middle East peacemakers`in North Europe, youth summer camps, cultural evenings, activity in national&international levels.

The idea of the Arabic Culture Center (ACC) was established after the tragic and horrible events of 11 of September 2001, when we started realizing the increasing of a sort of phobia against Arabs and the stereotyping of Arabs as being a threat to peace and the civil world all over Europe and Latvia included.

Mission and Objectives

The main goals of Arabic Cultural Center are: 1.) To encourage social integration of Arabs in Latvia and the EU. 2.) To strengthen cultural and social ties between Arabic world and Latvia. 3.) Offer educational lectures providing information on Arabic culture.

Main Projects / Activities

The ACC as mentioned earlier has many different types of activities, including cultural events and informative and educational lectures, for example it is worth mentioning in this regard the latest tour of seminars which included five major cities in Latvia, Daugavpils, Rezekne, Valmiera, Jelgava and Ventspils, under the name of peace and love( truth and reality of the Arabic world), this project was sponsored by the European Union under LEDII project against discrimination, the aim was to reach out to as many persons as possible constituting the Latvian society in an attempt to change the one sided view about the Arabs and Islam which people usually receive from the media by painting a more realistic and vivid picture of the Arabic world, the unique richness of its tradition, culture and religions.
